Helen MAge: 55-65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Bible Stories written for ChildrenNovember 30, 2016Helen MAge: 55-65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Gods Little Lambs ~Bible Stories~ is a cute cushioned hard cover book for young children. Julie Stiegemeyer has taken stories from the Bible and rewritten them in easy to understand short stories for children. There are 17 stories from the Old Testament and 18 stores from the New Testament. Each of the stories are just a few pages long and include colorful pictures, drawn by Qin Leng, that correspond with the story. At the end of each story is a small block with a little lamb and a short verse that go along with the story.
This little Bible story book starts out with explaining who God is and that God made all things. Some of the stories in this book are childrens favorites. The stories include those of Adam and Eve, Danial in the lions den, the flood, Jonah and the whale, Joshua, Joseph and Moses of the Old Testament. Stores from the New Testament include, the birth and childhood of Jesus as well as his ministry, death and resurrection.
This is a really cute book. The front of the book has a page to fill in if given as a gift. This is a wonderful book to read to little ones to help teach them the Bible stories. The author has summaries the stories so little children will understand them.
I really like this book. This book is the perfect size for little ones to hold and carry. Each of the stories is a good length to read to a toddler as well as for a young reader. I really enjoyed the short verses at the end of each story. This is a great way to help talk with the little ones about the story. Also letting the children find the little lamb is a nice way to interact with them as well. The colorful pages are also shinny so will not get dirty from children touching them. The cover is also easily cleaned and durable.
I received this book from the publisher through BookLook Bloggers and have written an honest review.
Fitzysmom5 Stars Out Of 5Review from Rambles of a SAHMOctober 27, 2016FitzysmomQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5God's Little Lambs Bible Stories is a delightful new storybook Bible designed for the preschool set. We do a daily Bible story with the little ones in our family so we are always on the look out for a new addition to our reading library.
There are 35 different stories that are spread equally over the Old and New Testaments. All the stories focus on God's love and provision for His people. I enjoy Julie Stiegemeyer's words as she simplifies the story for a young audience but still remains true to the original Scripture passage. Qin Leng's illustrations are just beautiful. She uses vibrant colors and simple illustrations that pair well with Julie's words.
One of the things that I like most about this particular book is that each story also includes the Scripture reference for where the story is located. This is especially helpful for our new approach to Family Bible Study. We read the book portion to the little ones but the older ones can look up and read the passages in their own Bibles.
If you're looking for a new storybook Bible for your little one I would recommend checking this one out. I think your family will enjoy it again and again.
I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.
contemplativereflections4 Stars Out Of 5Book Review: God's Little Lambs Bible StoriesOctober 14, 2016contemplativereflectionsQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0In "God's Little Lambs Bible Stories," Julie Stiegemeyer (author) and Qin Leng (illustrator) collaborate to create a colourful children's storybook Bible with thirty five stories covering both the Old and New Testaments. Readers may not necessarily agree with all the stories chosen such as the healing of the crippled man and the apostle Paul being shipwrecked on his missionary journey in Acts. However, I would say that the author's selection is fairly intentional in highlighting critical covenant narratives such as Adam, Noah, Moses, David, and Jesus. Introducing covenant theology to children at a young age allows them to begin grasping the Bible's storyline and develop a framework for further deepening their understanding of the Bible. Each story is concise yet detailed and attempts to retain the wording of adult Bibles so adults will need to be prepared to explain the meaning of more challenging narratives such as the Last Supper and Jesus' crucifixion. As for the pictures, each page is filled with bright and eye-catching illustrations with careful attention to details. Each story occupies around four pages and will always end with a short sentence to apply the lesson learned through the story. For the most part, the applications are appropriate and may be helpful to parents looking for a quick reference in teaching their children during nighttime devotions. However, I would encourage parents to keep working with their kids to dig deeper in God's Word to understand the original meaning and wider applications of each story. It is critical to teach our children as they grow up to plumb the depths of Scripture instead of simply stopping with a moral lesson. However, I do appreciate the author's motivation to provide an accessible storybook Bible to help whet the appetites of children for God's Word.
I would recommend this book to children between the ages of four to six as the stories are relatively long and the words may be hard to understand. By this age, many of these stories may be familiar to children as taught in Sunday School or bedside devotions. "God's Little Lambs Bible Stories" deepens the impression of these narratives through vivid illustrations and lengthier text that helps children gain a greater knowledge of God's Word and the Bible's grand storyline. Most importantly, the focus is squarely on Christ as the New Testament portion consists of sixteen stories on Jesus and encourages little ones to take on the task of spreading the good news of the gospel in the last two stories on the apostles. In summary, this book may not be a typical children's Bible but would be a great tool to transition kids to begin reading God's Word for themselves.
