Publisher's Description

"Man and woman had been created in God’s image …

that meant people were extra special to God."

God spent seven days creating his world. He made the stars and the moon, the plants and the trees, and the birds and the fish. On the last day he made Adam and Eve—people like you! God loved everything that he made. But one day Adam and Eve disobeyed God.

This level 2 I Can Read! book is designed for newly independent readers and is based on the Adventure Bible—the #1 Bible for kids!

    This story is accurate yet it easy for young readers, like my 7 year old, to read and understand. I love the vibrant pictures and the fact that it did not "sugar coat" Adam and Eve's disobedience nor their consequences. God's Great Creation is a companion book to the Adventure Bible so if the illustrations look familiar that's why.

    I seriously look forward to new books in this series!

    I don't expect this book to be word for word out of the bible, but be clear and accurate enough for children to understand. The "Use all you see with respect" line is meant more for children to understand to be respectful and obedient when given free reign or use over things.

    {FYI: this book was sent to me for free in exchange for my honest review.}

    This book starts off well enough (although the illustrations are a bit dark). But then it becomes inaccurate. After God creates Eve, he says: "Use all you see with respect. And follow my one rule: do not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil."

    But the Bible does not say God told Adam and Eve to "use all you see with respect." It says (in Gen. 2:15, before Eve is even created) "The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the Lord God commanded the man, 'You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.'" So, God's Great Creation is not only inaccurate, but also politically correct.

    Having worked with children in the past, and having taught the book of Genesis as a young-earth apologist, I thought it would be great to see what resources are available for children in their early years of reading. That's why I picked up God's Great Creation.

    I was happy to see the traditional Adam and Eve story as we find in the beginning chapters of Genesis, but what I didn't see were prehistoric creatures that existed alongside Adam such as dinosaurs and other extinct mammals as well. I also found the children's book to focus too much on the fall of man as opposed to the coming redemption story. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that a lot of focus was given to the fall of man, it explains how sin entered the world and the curse we live under today, but an equal amount of time should have been given to the Messianic prophecy. Yet despite this, I found the book to be an accurate portrayal for children who are still learning how to read.

    If you're a parent or Sunday school teacher, consider this resource. I have received this complimentary book from Zondervan through the BookLook Bloggers program in exchange for a review. A positive review was not required and the views expressed in my review are strictly my own.
