Every believer has a need for an understanding of systematic theology, but very few theology books present material in a personal, devotional format that appeals to th most popular level of believers. Dr. Thrasher manages to communicate the most academic biblical truth with the heart and personal connection of a pastor, achieving a depth of knowledge at an extremely approachable level. It's the astute wisdom of a professor packaged in the comfortable relatability of a friend.

Thrasher covers many aspects of God's character and nature, including these: personable, unchanging, all-knowing, all-powerful, holy, faithful and true, love, sovereign, gracious, and merciful. He shows what each aspect of God's character and nature mean to the reader both personally and practically, inspiring worship, and challenging areas of belief that might need to be adjusted to biblical standards.
This is is not a book to be ready lightly or in one sitting. God As He Wants You to Know Him contains deep theological truths, and while it's non-academic and easy to read, it's meaty and deserves careful thought and reflection. The book is very scripturally based and sprinkled with historical and modern-day examples.
I especially appreciate how Thrasher takes some difficult-to-understand and sometimes misunderstood concepts and puts them in everyday language for the rest of us. His explanation of "propitiation" is helpful, and His discussion of the difference between mercy and grace add to the beauty of God. Additionally, Thrasher addresses the problem of evil, pain and suffering in the world as well as any explanation I've read or heard.
I absolutely love the "Knowing Him" sidebars that take you a bit deeper or show you how to apply certain truths to life. For example, in chapters 8 and 9 the "Knowing Him" sidebars include ways to pray for wisdom and enjoying God's presence.
Other practical helps are included in the book. Tables scattered throughout help readers visualize some stark contrasts or simply see in list form some of the ideas presented. Other practical helps include the five prayers for relying on God's power in chapter 10 and ways to become a person of mercy in chapter 16.
If you're looking to increase your knowledge of God's character and nature, this is a great book. It's biblical and practical while easy to read, thought it takes time to digest the deep truths presented. I highly recommend this book. So many times as I read this book I ended up in praise and worship at the wonder of our great God and how He chooses to know us so
intimately, wanting to know us and be known by us.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher for this review. However, the opinions expressed are my own.

These are the questions the author answers in this exceptional book.
I was pleasantly surprised with this book as it is a great theological devotional.
Thrasher takes the attributes of God, describes them, then shows how these attributes change peoples lives.
This book takes the knowledge about God and teaches us how to turn it into wisdom. How exactly do we do that?
If God is omnipresent, He is everywhere. If God is omniscient, He sees everything. That knowledge should give us wisdom. Everything we do is known by God and He is watching.
I enjoyed reading this book very much. It is an excellent study for a new believer as it introduces essential truths that build a strong foundation in the Christian faith.
I highly recommend this book both to the new believer and mature Christian.
I received this book from Moody Publishers in exchange for my honest review.
