Tell us a little about yourself. I am the fourth of nine children, seven boys and two girls. I clearly remember being raised in a Christian home under a God-fearing mother. I accepted Christ at the age of eleven but later felt the need to re-dedicate my life to the Lord. I had several careers but the one dearest to my heart and was being an educator. I felt definitely lead to this field. I always kept busy working, traveling, and spending valued time with family and friends. I am an outgoing person and love people. My life changed rather drastically when I became stricken with Lyme disease. It's been quite a journey but God has been faithful. Music has always been an important part of my life and thus the title of my book was sparked, God Wants to Hear Me Sing!
What was your motivation behind this project? Three friends challenged me to write my story based on Christmas letters two of them received, which some of the contents revealed my illness and what I was going through. The third person was one of my doctors who saw me regularly and inspired me to share my story with others.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? My desire is that those who read my book will be drawn to Jesus. So may people suffer physically, emotionally, and spiritually and I pray that my journal entries will encourage others with the realization that we can easily fall into depression, but we don't have to stay there. God provides and way out. I'm still learning that even if God doesn't remove my "thorn in the flesh" I still have much to thank Him for and can still sing in the midst of my storms. To God be the glory!
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Through writing my journey with Lyme, it was quite humbling to think that I was going to expose some deep thoughts and feelings for all to see. I had to choose to be transparent in order to show others that they are not alone. It brought a deeper dependence on God.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? My church family, my sister, a special brother, close friends, and my chiropractor were great sources of encouragement and influence in my life during the onset and continuance of my disease. I have always been inspired by the work of the late Thomas Kinkade; I love his paintings! My desire is to be a light to those around me.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: Don't stop singing! The joy of the Lord is your strength! The Lord delights in hearing our praise!
