Publisher's Description

Little Pup’s wolf family is on their way to a special reunion—with lots of cousins, games, roasting marshmallows, and fun! As the young wolf thinks about different kinds of families, it’s the perfect opportunity for Mama and Papa to teach their inquisitive child about the families that God brings together. Some families are big and others are small, some are led by grandparents or just one parent, and some families include adopted little ones– yet each family is truly special.

Even the members of Little Pup’s pack make up an important role in his family, although they sometimes pester him. Papa gently reminds his son…

"We need to love the family God gave us."

A heartwarming and colorful addition to the best-selling God Gave Us series, this tale will delight young hearts and help them understand how families of all types reflect God’s unconditional love.

As soon as my littlest guy opened the package and saw this book, he was overjoyed and immediately started pouring over the pages. We are big fans of the GodGave Us series and this newest addition meets the high standards we've come to expect from Lisa Tawn Bergren.

I appreciate the way important family issues like annoying siblings are approached in a kind and encouraging manner. The kids especially enjoyed the outdoorsy activities that the wolf pack enjoyed together and we all agree that family is a precious gift from God! This book is an instant favorite for us!

I requested the opportunity to read and review this title through the publisher. The opinions expressed are my own.

We love Lisa Tawn Bergren's "God Gave... " series. For those that we've read, my favorite has been "God Found Us You" speaking to the unique journey of adoption. It was gifted to my little guy on his adoption day by my mom and it's my personal favorite.

In this edition, Little Pup and his family are headed to their family reunion. Along the way, Little Pup questions his parents about why they only have one child in their family. They explore the idea that families come in all different styles: grandparents, single parents, adoption. In the end, Little Pup decides he loves the family that he's been given, crazy cousins and all.

    Pros:

talking about different types of families

    mention of adoption

    beautiful illustrations

    positive parent/ child relationship

    Cons:

Part way through the book the story changes from dialogue to narrative. Although I still loved the story, it would have been better to keep it all in one style or have a mix of the two throughout. Having the book change halfway through 'caused it to loose it's continuity. And it was sad to see the dialogue with Little Pup's parents disappear.

All in all, I did enjoy this book and think it would be especially helpful for any child struggling with family relationships. It's also a great starting point for discussion about different types of families. While not my favorite within the series, it is a sweet story and would make a nice gift for the child in your life.

I will enjoy reading this new book by Lisa Tawn Bergren to my children. It begins as a conversation between a wolf pup and his parents. The pup wants to know why some families are big and some are little. As the discussion continues, the pup's parents talk about adoption, single parent families, children raised by their grandparents, and extended families. They even touch on how some families do things differently than others. The point: when parents are caring for children that's a family. My favorite lines from the book: "Because we're family , we figure out how to get along. We need to love the family God gave us."

About two-thirds of the way through the book, Bergren changes it from a discussion between the wolf pup and his parents to a narrative of the wolf pup enjoying time with his cousins. I found this a little bit jarring and wondered if Bergren just ran out of topics for the wolf family to discuss. Bergren ended with the wolf pup being thankful for the family God gave him.

My favorite part of the book, the part I think my children will like best as well, is the sweet artwork by David Hohn. It goes perfectly with Bergren's words. I thank Waterbrook Multnomah Publishers for sending me a complimentary copy of this book, so I could share my thoughts about it with you.

First of all, let me just start off by saying that I absolutely love the "God Gave Us" line of books. My four year old has several of these books, and I am just in love with them (as is he!)

This particular story, "God Gave Us Family" centers around a fox family - little fox starts asking his parents questions about their family. This opens up a conversation between the adorable animal family about what family is, and how each family is different. What I appreciated was that the different animal families that the fox family talk about are situations that children in any type of family can relate to. For example, little fox notes that momma goose takes care of all her goslings by herself, and that the goslings go to visit their dad at another pond during the summer.

I think that this book is one that any child can enjoy and relate to. The illustrations are colorful and enjoyable, and the story itself is entertaining. I would highly recommend this book, or any of the "God Gave Us" books to families with younger children. My four year old was so excited when this book came in the mail, and demanded we read it immediately! Wonderful addition to our little library!

God Gave Us Family is a beautiful children's book written by Lisa Tawn Bergren and illustrated by David Hohn. It teaches children the differences in families and how we should be thankful and love the family that God blessed us with.

The art work is so cute and colorful and this is the perfect book for snuggling up with your little one for some quality one on one time. I love the "God Gave Us" theme! It is perfect for teaching your child about all that God has blessed them with.

This would be a great addition to your children's library.
