Hannah C. Hall estimates that she has read approximately 4,500 bedtime stories to her children over the last few years. She is thankful to get to add her own books to their daily rotation. Hannah and her husband, Josh, have five children and live in a small town in Arkansas.
Steve Whitlow lives in northern England, on the top of a (very) windswept hill, with his wife and young family. Steve followed his artistic calling from an early age and was first published at age 16, producing vibrant characters for greeting cards and then children's publishing. With no formal art training and only his natural talent, Steve has now been working as a professional artist for more than twenty years. "My kids are my critics," says Steve. "The best reaction I can hope for is an exclamation of Cool, Dad! from either Sam or Ethanor both."
Debbie from ChristFocusHarrison, ARAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5About being a good friend and having friends who are different from youNovember 8, 2016Debbie from ChristFocusHarrison, ARAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5"God Bless My Friends" is a board book for young children. According to the publisher, this book is intended to teach "the importance of being a friend to all kinds of people, including ones who are different from them." The interior illustrations are of the same style as the cover and feature those same animals. The book starts, "Whenever I can be with you, / That's when the fun begins. / On days we play, I love to say, / 'God bless my greatest friends!'"
Each page shows different types of animals playing together. Some pages emphasize playing with people different than you: different talents, different heights or sizes, and different physical appearances. The other pages show these different animals helping each other, sharing with each other, cheering each other up, and simply having fun together ("We romp and stomp. We jump and tromp. / With you, I'm never bored!").
The illustrations can prompt further comments on how the animals are different yet still enjoy playing together and helping each other. My niece is currently a newborn, but I think she's going to enjoy this book when she's a little older. Overall, I'd recommend this book.
I received this book as a review copy from the publisher through BookLook.
Lyndsey5 Stars Out Of 5God bless my friendsOctober 17, 2016LyndseyQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0This book is precious! It is a great tool to talk to your kids about being a friend and what a friend looks like, acts like, and says. The illustrations are sweet and the rhyming text make it easy for even the littlest ones to enjoy. In today's world, I love adding any book to our library that talks about Godly friendship and teaches my kids to be kind and encouraging to others. This book is a great addition to your library if you are looking for the same thing!
Amanda5 Stars Out Of 5God Bless My Friends by Hannah C. Hall, Illustrated by Steve WhitlowOctober 14, 2016AmandaQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5God Bless My Friends is such a cute book. I am a big fan of the God Bless My. books by Hannah C. Hall. I have God Bless my Fall and Christmas. They are such awesome books. I was actually given this book by Booklookbloggers.com review program for my honest review. It is not hard to be honest about this book because I LOVE it!
I love the way Hannah C. Hall writes this series of books. They always flow so well and have a cute rhyming pattern.
This book is about having friends. Which in my 3 year olds life is a pretty important lesson right now. He is just learning what it is like to have a friend. I would suggest this book for early elementary readers but it is so fun I love to read it myself. God is never left out of this cute board book. Several times God is mentioned. The book talks about the differences in friends. Some are tall and some are short. Some are big and some are small. The book begins and ends with God bless my greatest friends!.
The illustrations by Steve Whitlow are adorable. From pigs, monkeys, turtles, elephants and giraffes. All his animals are set in soft feathery scenes that really bring out the cuteness in the animals and their environments.
I highly recommend this book!
