It was just a simple singing competition that would be fun to audition for. Who knew what kind of doors it might open for a sixteen-year-old from Garner, North Carolina.
Go Big or Go Home is the story of a kid with country songs in his soul. The special thing with Scotty McCreery, however, is that he has this God-given ability to sing those tunes the exact way they should be sung. Daring to enter the limelight at such a young age, Scotty finds himself embraced by the nation, and even overseas, as he competes on "American Idol". This is his journey from his North Carolina roots to winning Americas most popular singing competition and launching a musical career he had always dreamt about.
Go Big or Go Home narrates Scotty's journey from a kid imitating Elvis on the school bus to 30 million across America tuning in to see him win Season 10 of "American Idol". Now as he completes his ground-breaking fourth album, Scotty shares a glimpse of where he came from and the impact his faith, family and friends have had on a humbled guy who keeps asking "why me?"
Scotty McCreery burst onto the national music scene in 2011 at age 17, quickly establishing himself as one of country musics hottest new stars. By age 21, the talented singer/songwriter has sold nearly 2.5 million albums and received both Platinum and Gold album certifications, debuted three consecutive albums at No. 1 on a Billboard chart, achieved three Platinum-certified singles and two Top Ten hits, toured with Brad Paisley, The Band Perry, and Rascal Flatts, headlined his own tours, earned industry and fan accolades, amassed more than three million followers on Facebook and Twitter, received more than 150 million YouTube views, and hes just getting started!

Go Big or Go Home shows how one person can follow their dreams, no matter what it looks like ahead or what others may think/say. Scotty McCreery tells of his true-life experience of reaching for the stars, without compromising his faith or who he is inside. The human side of him is displayed as he makes mistakes and stumbles just like the rest of us. He pushes forward, meets many famous people; while staying true to himself and Jesus.
I admire how he does not compromise in singing a song that is totally contrary to who he is and who Jesus is, even if that means he could lose his chance at completing his dream. Through that he is rewarded with his dream and much more. I recommend Go Big or Go Home.
ciciAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Hey, ScottyJune 15, 2016ciciAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This will be the first time I read an autobiography that I thoroughly enjoyed from page 1 to last page. I think I could have read even more than what was included and that was also a first. Go Big or Go Home by Scotty McCreery and Travis Thrasher is about his life and it is so beautifully written that it felt more like and interview than an autobiography which was new and exciting. I never really enjoy autobiographies because they come of so dry and boring and only focus on the one sensational event that happened to the writer. I just cannot get into stories like that and they tend to be put down for good. However, McCreery shared so much of himself making this version more relatable and enjoyable than its predecessors and I really enjoyed that about his book. I can only wish that he may write another or something else in the future. Yay Scotty! I received a copy for this review from
Susan Barrett5 Stars Out Of 5Great Read!May 3, 2016Susan BarrettQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Go Big or Go Home by Scotty McCreery isn't exactly an autobiography. It's more like what you'd expect if you sat down and talked with Scotty over coffee and had someone type up everything he said. It's the story of his childhood, American Idol ride, faith, and more. If you or someone you know is a Scotty McCreery fan, I highly recommend this book. And if you aren't a fan, I suggest you read the book--you may just become one. I really liked how down to earth Scotty seemed throughout the book. He told funny stories; he told sad stories.
I've also read several other books co-written with Travis Thrasher, and while I am starting to notice similarities, I thought he helped the book flow smoothly and hold my interest. I couldn't put this book down; it was like having a conversation in which I could both get to know Scotty more and feel as if I was going behind the scenes of American Idol! This would make a great gift for country music fans. It's an encouraging read, to see someone stand up for what they believe in, and even read gut-honest stories about when he didn't, but he went back and apologized.
Thank you so much to Zondervan publishers and their Book Look bloggers program with Thomas Nelson for providing me with a copy of this book to read and review. All opinions are my own and were not required to be positive, nor were they affected by anything other than the book itself (and being a fan of the author). :)
