The daughter at the center of the international bestseller Not Without My Daughter completes her story: escaping from Iran, growing up in fear, battling deadly disease, and learning to forgive.

Now the daughter returns to tell the whole story, not only of that imprisonment and escape but of life after fleeing Tehran: living in fear of re-abduction, enduring recurring nightmares and panic attacks, attending school under a false name, battling life-threatening illnessall under the menacing shadow of her father.

Kendra5 Stars Out Of 5riveting storyFebruary 11, 2016KendraQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Many will remember the best-selling book and subsequent film Not Without My Daughter. In My Name is Mahtob, the worlds most famous daughter (as she has been called), Mahtob Mahmoody, tells her story of being held hostage by her father in Iran, her escape with her mother, and her life since the escape.
I was most impressed by the authors testimony of forgiveness for her father. After the abuse, the years of fear of recapture, the stalkings and other suspicious activity, it is truly an act of Gods grace in her life that she can live with joy and peace.
Both Mahtob and her mother celebrate their Iranian heritage, and repeatedly affirm that not all Iranians or Muslims are bad. Even when speaking of Mahtobs father, her mother is gracious and mostly positive. I found that remarkable, considering what they endured at his hand.
In addition to the stress and trauma of Mahtobs experience with her father, she also deals with lupus, an auto-immune disease. Her life has not been easy, but her story is one of hope and was a riveting read.
I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Mahtob is the girl that back in 1977 was taken to Iran with her family, for what was supposed to be a 2 week vacation that ends up a living nightmare. Her father would not let her mother or her come back to the United States and held them captive in Iran as his prisoners. This is from the movie Not withouth my daughter, the mom did the movie back then and now the daughter tells her story in this book. It shows that GOD's grace can get you through anything as long as you belive in HIS way.
This is a book that is a great read for anyone. I would recommend this book for anyone to read, it is a true story that needs to be known to everyone. Once you start to read this book, you will not be able to put it down. It is a book that has faith from begining to the end. A book that is very well written and you will want to discuss and recommend to all your friends.

HappyElf MomMetro Kansas City3 Stars Out Of 5Real Forgiveness Takes Time and WorkNovember 25, 2015HappyElf MomMetro Kansas CityQuality: 5Value: 3Meets Expectations: 3Frequently, little Mahtob and her parents visited and dined with neighbours and friends in their multicultural Texas community during the early 1980's. But just before her fifth birthday, the Iranian Revolution changed her father from a mild-mannered and doting man to a fundamentalist who would stop at nothing to ensure his family lived in his idea of the traditional Muslim way. He tricked his wife into taking a two-week "vacation" to Iran with their daughter. Local laws and customs essentially then made them prisoners. Mahtob and her mother had to endure frequent beatings and find the courage to keep trying to escape. After they arrived in America, though, could they ever forgive?
My Name is Mahtob leaves the reader with a real flavour of author Mahtob Mahmoody's childhood memories - the sweetness and the bitter - as well as the difficult process of forgiving her father. There was a real danger that this little girl could be kidnapped again or that her father and his comrades could do violence to the family. This isn't a little, "I prayed a prayer and Jesus made it all better" book. This girl lived crisis by crisis, but a happy event during college pushed her to embrace happiness. Mahtob was able to do this over time without losing sight of the fact that her father wronged her family.
Her mother published Not Without My Daughter, which later became a movie starring Sally Field, so if you know this story, you'll want to pick this book up as a companion reader. I have to tell you, it's a bit hard to get through. Reading about what this little girl remembers from her childhood and then to think that there are millions of other little girls living in similar circumstances is sobering. I received this book for free from BookLook bloggers but was not required to write a positive review.
