Publisher's Description

21 Myths (Even Good) Girls Believe about Sex uncovers the most believed untruths girls have about dating and sex. With honest, straight-forward language Christian author Jennifer Strickland shares the myths, the truths, and the practical ways you can enjoy the pursuit of passion and purity.

Author Bio

Jennifer Strickland is a blessed wife and mother of three, author, speaker, and founder of U R More, a ministry that teaches people their value, identity, and purpose in Christ. For fifteen years, Jennifer worked as a professional model, but the flesh-obsessed world of modeling left her heartbroken and ashamed. While living in Europe, she found Christ, and left modeling in search of a more authentic life. Since then, she has become a dynamic conference speaker and has written several books and Bible studies, helping women of all ages find their true value.

Since 2007, she has spoken to tens of thousands of teens and women of all ages, inspiring them to embrace their identity as God's beloved daughters and beautiful creations. She speaks on self-worth, beauty, body image, eating disorders, identity, self harm, sexual purity, modesty, forgiveness, releasing shame, and turning one's past into purpose.

Editorial Reviews

"Jennifer Strickland brings hope, healing, grace, and truth in this wonderful book. All studies show that the more positive healthy sex education kids receive, the less promiscuous they will become. This book can help anyone rethink the way today’s culture often looks at sex and help them find a much healthier view of sexuality. Jennifer Strickland is a wonderful writer and speaker with one of the most important messages to girls of this generation. I highly recommend this book."
—Jim Burns, PhD
President, HomeWord
Author, The Purity Code and Teaching Your Children Healthy Sexuality

"Sex is too important to forget why God created it, how it builds intimacy, and how we can enjoy it. No matter who you are, this book is for you. Prepare to be challenged. Get ready to look at scripture passages in new light. Open your heart and mind as you read the stories. This book could change you, it may heal you, it could save your marriage, and it could even prepare you for marriage. Make no mistake, this book is a game changer."
—Caleb Kaltenbach, Lead Pastor of Discovery Church and author of Messy Grace

"Authentic and truth-filled, 21 Myths (Even Good) Girls Believe about Sex is a relevant reminder of God's design for sex, love, and intimacy. Jennifer shows us in practical ways how to pursue passion and purity while living winsomely in the world, yet not of the world. As a mom of two tween daughters, this resource will be a "go-to" for many years to come. Highly recommended!"
—Cindy Bultema, Women’s speaker, Bible teacher and author of Red Hot Faith

"In a culture that seeks to convince us sexual purity is an antiquated philosophy, Jennifer Strickland proves the opposite. In 21 Myths (Even Good) Girls Believe about Sex, she uncovers the lies that would have us believe purity of mind and body stands in the way of our sexual freedoms. Through candid stories, analogies, and personal transparency she reveals the truth about sex—that purity does not inhibit physical pleasure but liberates us to enjoy sex the way it was designed to be. . .pleasure without pain or remorse."
—Tracey Mitchell, Speaker, TV host and author of Downside Up

"Candid, honest, straight-forward, and written from a heart that tenderly and truthfully cares for girls and women, Jennifer Strickland tackles the much-needed topic of S.E.X. With the comfort and ease of sitting with a best friend over a latte, she weaves truth and beauty into the reader’s heart and life."
—Pam Farrel, Author of Red Hot Monogamy, 52 Ways to Wow Your Husband: Put a Smile on His Face and Red Hot Romance Tips for Women

Strickland is upfront about her own shortcomings, and her willingness to tackle such an important topic in our culture will help guide readers and redirect those who have drifted from the path of purity.

Our culture is saturated with sexuality. All you have to do is turn on the TV and within a few minutes of watching a popular sitcom, you will witness lies about sex; couples sleeping together before marriage without any hesitation, breaking up with your ex only to sleep with her best friend, or pregnancies out of wedlock. All of these and so much more are deemed acceptable in the eyes of the culture. Society weaves what they believe about sex, which is mainly opposite of the Bibles views, into every part of the world around us.

My heart breaks for the youth around me because society has twisted Gods beautiful design of intimacy shared between only a husband and a wife. They have given us rose-colored glasses so we cant easily define the truth instead of crystal-clear ones. Youth in our day dont stand a chance to save themselves for marriage because from the time we are walking, we are told its okay to do what ever makes you feel good; this includes sex.

I wish men and women knew the value of their bodies.

I wish men and women understood the importance of the gift of sex.

I wish men and women grasped the beauty of the gift, which is found only in marriage.

The enemy will do all he can to make sure he distorts and ruins any gift that God calls beautiful especially the gift of physical intimacy. Its a beautiful gift God has given each and every one of us. He has entrusted us the gift of sex. The question I have for you is: What you are doing with your gift?

What are the lies and myths the enemy has quietly spoken into your heart? Have you listened to them? Jennifer Stricklands book not only encourages you to value sex but also trades the lies for truth!

Sex.. That highly taboo topic in some places, spoken of quite frivolously in others. The one some Christians don't talk about enough and that world talks about too much. You know the theme most of us tend to shy away from.

Jennifer does not. She addresses it head on. This book contains myths (an unproved or false collective belief) that girls tend to believe and live by such as guilt, fear, feelings of worthlessness. And the counterpoint to that myth - truth from the Word of God.

This book pretty much covers it all - abortions, premarital sex, promiscuity, STD's, as well as, love, kindness, feelings... There is really more than I could list here with out taking up a lot of space. Jennifer identifies by using stories of women who have been through the situations themselves, including her own. She explains how much God loves us and His plan for great sex, within the context He created it for.

This book is ideally for older girls, but mothers may want to use it as a learning tool. Teenagers would benefit from reading this book especially if they are exposed to a great deal of culture and peer pressure. If your young girl has been sheltered a bit more, you may want to wait til she is a little older. But many young teens now days need to hear what Jennifer has to share. You may not agree with everything that Jennifer has to say, but there is certainly a lot to glean from this book. I would encourage you to read it, and share it with those you know.

I was blessed with this book courtesy of Barbour Publishing in exchange for my honest opinion. I am not required to write a positive review.

Filled with personal anecdotes and experiences of those who have experiences of the varying topics, Biblical wisdom, and the author's personal stories and thoughts, this book is a frank and refreshingly honest discussion that does not offer condemnation or shame. There is guidance offered, but not in a bombastic "turn or burn" style that only criticizes. Whether the reader is a victim or is making an active choice, love and acceptance are freely given...but with a balanced viewpoint that is Biblically sound. On the negative side, some seemed a bit too simple and naive. People do not always respond to your sincerity when you say love someone while not condoning their lifestyle. I totally get it, but have also watched the world become angrier and more bitter if everything they believe is not embraced. However, I do agree with what Jennifer said about loving people and treating them with respect.

I do highly recommend this book as a great resource for all. Whether you have not yet begun to date or if you have been through so many experiences that you feel it is too late to change---or, like many of us, somewhere in between, the book has truths that we all need poured into our lives.

Disclosure: I received a free download of this book from the author. However, all opinions are my own.

Jennifer has a way of writing that speaks the truth with love. She addresses every sensitive area related to sex in a direct yet tactful and graced filled way. You can sense her 'mama bear' heart to help protect and educate girls and women who may never have heard that they are a beautiful treasure in the eyes of God and are worthy to be valued and treated with love and gentleness. In reading this book it brought me a better understanding of the damage done to me from my past sexual experiences and in turn brought another level of healing as I grieved, repented and surrendered it all to the Lord. Well done Jennifer! This book is a great gift for any young woman heading into middle school, high school, or off to college.
