Publisher's Description

Gifted Hands by and about Ben Carson, M.D., is the inspiring story of an inner-city kid with poor grades and little motivation, who, at age thirty-three, became director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University Hospital. Gifted Hands will transplace you into the operating room to witness surgeries that made headlines around the world, and into the private mind of a compassionate, God-fearing physician who lives to help others. In 1987, Dr. Carson gained worldwide recognition for his part in the first successful separation of Siamese twins joined at the back of the head -- an extremely complex and delicate operation that was five months of planning and twenty-two hours of actual surgery, involving a surgical plan that Carson helped initiate. Gifted Hands reveals a man with humility, decency, compassion, courage, and sensitivity who serves as a role model for young people (and everyone else) in need of encouragement to attempt the seemingly impossible and to excel in whatever they attempt. Dr. Carson also describes the key role that his highly intelligent though relatively uneducated mother played in his metamorphosis from an unmotivated ghetto youngster into one of the most respected neurosurgeons in the world.

From the ghettos of Detroit to the surgery rooms of the renowned John Hopkins hospital, "Gifted Hands" succinctly chronicles Ben Carson's remarkable life and career. Firmly believing that God had gifted his hands with the capacity to bring about healing, Dr. Carson saved hundreds of lives and successfully performed complicated neurosurgeries that no one thought possible. Fully crediting his single mom with her consistent mantra of encouragement and dedication to his education, Carson worked hard, studied hard, and prayed hard to become the man that he remains today.

    A truly inspiring biography!

This book is a "must read!" I wish Dr. Carson Gods richest blessings as he continues to keep Him

first in his life. As many with that talent totally forget where the blessings come from and give themselves the credit instead of God where it belongs. My solute to Ben's Mom! She is an amazing woman of strength. I myself buried my head in studying in school to avoid the mocking that continued all through the grades. And its still hard to face some of the fellow students today. They try so hard to be nice, but they never made their wrongs right.

Such an inspiring story of the life of this amazing man. It makes you laugh and makes you cry as Dr Carson's life story unfolds. It just put another stamp of confirmation on the high esteem with which I regard this man who shares his faith as easily as he shares his vast medical knowledge. He binds it all together with a rare dose of common sense thinking and always is quick to give credit to others who influenced his life as well as thanks to God for his "gifted hands." A very special read!
