Christianity Today 2024 Book Awards, Theology (Popular) category, Finalist

So often, the Third Person of the Trinity gets the least attention. He is considered confusing or mysterious.

Dr. Gregg Allison has spent his life devoted to studying and teaching theology, and this concise and practical book approaches the truth given to us in God's Word about the Holy Spirit with curiosity and wisdom.

For the everyday believer wanting to know God better, this book will broaden the reader's awareness of the Person and work of the Holy Spirit—God, Gift, and Guide. The Spirit is the best gift we are given after our salvation, the One who dwells within those who love Him.

This book is an invitation to live with an awareness of His presence in our everyday lives.

Editorial Reviews

"Books on the person and ministry of the Holy Spirit typically fall into one of two categories. They are either highly technical and beyond the reach of the average adult Christian, or they are theologically weak and overly sentimental. The time is long past due for a book like this one by Gregg Allison. It is theologically rich, biblically based, pastorally practical, and avoids talking past people or beneath them. I’ve waited a long time for a book on the Spirit that I can recommend to others without any qualification, reservation, or warning. Gregg is to be commended for making this available to the church. God, Gift and Guide: Knowing the Holy Spirit is now the best book on this timely and much needed topic. It is deserving of my highest and most enthusiastic endorsement."
-Sam Storms, Ph.D., Enjoying God Ministries

"God, Gift, and Guide is my favorite kind of book: concise, clear, charitable, designed for use by disciple makers in real church life. Gregg Allison uses personal stories to make his theological truths applicable. After laying out the trinitarian relationships, he delineates the works of the Spirit in people and the church. Finally, he carefully lays out the various positions on the gifts of the Spirit so people can assess the spectrum wisely and understand and respect people who take differing views. God, Gift, and Guide is a great resource for the church as community of the Spirit on the mission of Jesus by the love of the Father."
-Gerry Breshears, Professor of Theology, Western Seminary, Portland
