I lost my precious husband six months ago. This book helped to give me some perspective on some of the issues I am going through and will go through. One thing I liked about it so much was that it was not a book that told me what to do but gave me insight and viewpoints to think about so I could apply to my situation. I plan on reading the book again in a couple of months to help me out even more.

I have already given this book out to a couple of people who have lost their spouses and received great feedback. I purchased several of these books to keep on hand to give out to other people who have lost their spouses.

    I highly recommend this book.

To be fair, I have not read this entire book - could not bring myself to. I chose this book as a resource to use in supporting my mom while we grieve the sudden loss of my dad at the age of 64. I hoped for empathetic, wise and helpful strategies for dealing with the loss of a beloved spouse. Instead, this book feels quite technical - almost as though the authors are teaching other grief counselors instead of readers in the midst of painful grief and sorrow. I would only recommend this book to grieving widows/widowers after the first anniversary of their loss.

Getting to the Other Side of Grief was a book I will never regret purchasing. It speaks of exactly the place a surviving spouse will find him/herself. I have given away many books to new widows/widowers because it answers so many questions we have; emotions felt; explains new kind of normal life experienced. I recommend this book for consideration as a gift or for your personal use.
