Product Description

Get Ready for the Code: Book A is the first book of three preliteracy primers which introduce all consonant letters, and which are designed to be used before the Explode the Code series. Covering early literacy skills and letter formation, students will learn through visual, auditory, and kinesthetic activities that include tracing, matching, tracking, copying, and following directions. Book A teaches students consonants b, f, k, m, r, and t with an emphasis on phonemic awareness and sound-letter correspondence.

Special emphasis is given to discriminating between similar objects and letters, to developing the motor control necessary to write legibly, and to developing the listening skills children need to follow directions carefully.

The Explode the Code Teacher's Guide for Books A, B, and C (sold-separately) includes the teacher's portion of the listening exercises given in this workbook.

Grades K-1. 80 non-reproducible pages, consumable softcover workbook.

Utilizing these books with my 4 year old, has helped with his recognition of letters and sounds, as well as he is able to distinguish between pictures. He has applied this skilled to other areas such as toys and dinner. He now uses the book as his homework, when he comes home from daycare, which allows him to feel older becasue he is working alongside his older siblings. NOTE the books does not teach the lesson, but assist in the instruction. The teacher/parent/guardian still has to be willing to put in the time upfront to make learning successful in the end. Meaning you will need to work with your chikd for the first two or three letters After that they will be self-sufficienr in understanding the expectation on each page. Then you truly become a facilitator.

Our 4 yr old has a speech delay and has been reluctant to do schoolwork at home, especially phonetics. When this arrived, he was thrilled! I couldn't believe that he actually asked to do schoolwork. We keep each lesson short, and take more time on each sound since he has a speech delay, having him just look/point/trace the lesson first. This is helping him connect the letter to the appropriate sound, love it.

These used to be printed on nice quality white paper. The books I received this week are on thin newsprint type paper and will not hold up as well for a young child to write on.

A school-teacher friend recommended these books to me, so, knowing she is great teacher/mother I was anxious to grab one and see how my son liked it. Well, he has flown through it! I love the repitition of the book, but its almost not challenging enough for him. However, for the sake of building a good foundation, not wanting to rush him and since he did just turn 4 in March I will order the books in order. My son loves being able to work in his "new school book" and enjoy's knowing he can do it on his own although we work together on it. I will continue to use these book while building a great foundation in reading!

I'm amazed at how quickly my pre-schooler caught on and really enjoyed the work! It was very easy for her to do a page or two without feeling overwhelmed.
