I received this bible as a gift after waiting a long time for it. I have other bibles but have a warm feeling in my heart when reading the through the pages; I feel as though I am sitting next to the reformers. I enjoy reading their notations. The paper is very nice; the point size very small but I wear glasses so it is not overwhelmingly uncomfortable for me. I would prefer a 14 pt - perhaps Tolle Lege will produce one in the future - which will make many people extremely happy even if it has to be bigger in overall size.
I do NOT like the cover, however, and would have been inclined to send the bible back if it did not have my name on the cover. It is rather stiff - does not have a very pliable feel - and is wider than any other bible covers I have in my library. All of my other bible covers measure from 5 - 6 mm from the paper edge. The 1599 cover hangs almost 1/2 inch (11 mm) away from the paper edge - very peculiar. With frequent use, it will wear VERY poorly and probably bend and eventually crack at the bend. I did not read through all the reviews, so I am not sure if this is consistent with others who have gotten this bible or if it is just this production. I would like to hear from Tolle Lege on this subject, if possible.
I will click yes as to whether or not I would recommend this to a friend, but I would make sure they were aware of the cover issues.
"The Bible of 'firsts'"! Excellent translation, excellent notes from the Reformers. Good paper and even printing throughout. Wish it had a Trutone cover rather than bonded leather, which is always just this side of awful (the only reason I lowered the quality rating by one point)...but still, for the price here, let nothing keep you from purchasing and reading this wonderful translation of the Scriptures. Thankful to have this available again after so long, and thankful for great service from Christianbook once again! Grace and peace.
This bible is amazing I highly recommend this bible

I had done some research on when the puritnas came to Amercia and brought this bible over on the mayflower . It's an amazing bible to read . The first bible to have study notes and is easily readable . The paper feels just like from when they wrote it and I feel like I'm learning so much from this bible! The first night I read the evening prayer in back of bible I felt Gods presence and that he was proud and also he revealed that he was preparing a place for me after I read that prayer. The print size for me is good as I wear glasses ! The study notes are amazing and they tell the truth . I am so grateful to God for sending me this bible . It came in mail fast and in great condition ! If you want what King James copied from its this bible . I love my King James also but I feel so fullfilled when I read this scripture ! I would highly recommened it to anyone ! If your second guessing , take the plunge and buy it as it's well worth it !
Years ago I read The Puritan and knew I need either a Bishop Bible or a Geneva Bible. When I checked book stores, I also knew I could not afford either one so, I bought the New Geneva Study Bible, which has been my primary Bible since 1995. When I read Tolle Lege was printing the 1599 Geneva Bible translated from Aramaic, Hebrew and Greek I knew I wanted this Bible. Another reason is the inclusion of notes written by the reformers who affected changes in religion, the church, and how we read/study the Bible that even today those changes are still effective. I started to read just for the pleasure of having this 1599 translation, then realized that I will be studying this Bible and getting pleasure from the studying.
One more note. Recently, someone asked me what am I reading that is interesting. I smiled and said, "I am studying my newly acquired Geneva Bible 1599 Edition, translated and printed by Tolle Lege."
Only a 3 of 5 rating for Meets Expectations because I have not completed my reading.
