This bible translation has been one that I've been wanting for over a year but never got to buy it since it was backordered or the remaining published ones were selling for expensive amounts. I then searched for them again and CBD ended up selling this version for less than I would assume and its durable leather, pages are soft with thin look to them, the package of the bible comes with a DVD for further personal studying. The bible was worth the price and will probably buy another one of these as a present for one of my pastors and a close friend of mine. I truly did enjoy buying the Geneva Bible since its like having a version that is no longer published but has timeless value in the teachings that the Puritans had back in the 16th century.
My wife purchased The Geneva Bible 1599 Edition for our Anniversary after a great deal of hinting about it. I have read through many translations of the Bible. I love to read The King James Authorized version and was curious about the difference. The Geneva 1599 is very similar in terms of language. One of the humorous thing was the Lord making "breeches" for Adam and Eve after they had sinned. I guess that so far the main difference is the use of the language. The verses seem to be richer. I can't really put my finger on it so to speak.I wouldn't advise a new Christian to pick this as their primary Bible but I'm having an enjoyable time reading it.
Love the words and notes - Binding case and cover are to delicate
February 26, 2016
I bought this book mainley for the older english wording and reformer notes. That's most important to me. However the book binding is real cheap and I would have presfered a hard cover or spiral for that matter. Almost afraid to open the book much of the time as if it's going to come loose.
I received this bible as a gift after waiting a long time for it. I have other bibles but have a warm feeling in my heart when reading the through the pages; I feel as though I am sitting next to the reformers. I enjoy reading their notations. The paper is very nice; the point size very small but I wear glasses so it is not overwhelmingly uncomfortable for me. I would prefer a 14 pt - perhaps Tolle Lege will produce one in the future - which will make many people extremely happy even if it has to be bigger in overall size.
I do NOT like the cover, however, and would have been inclined to send the bible back if it did not have my name on the cover. It is rather stiff - does not have a very pliable feel - and is wider than any other bible covers I have in my library. All of my other bible covers measure from 5 - 6 mm from the paper edge. The 1599 cover hangs almost 1/2 inch (11 mm) away from the paper edge - very peculiar. With frequent use, it will wear VERY poorly and probably bend and eventually crack at the bend. I did not read through all the reviews, so I am not sure if this is consistent with others who have gotten this bible or if it is just this production. I would like to hear from Tolle Lege on this subject, if possible.
I will click yes as to whether or not I would recommend this to a friend, but I would make sure they were aware of the cover issues.
