Editorial Reviews

Either parents will teach their children God's truth about gender, or else the culture will do so for them. Brian Seagraves and Hunter Leavine have put together a helpful resource for parents seeking to understand the growing complexity around the gender revolution and how to respond with both grace and truth. -- Andrew T. Walker (Director of Policy Studies, The Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission and author of God and the Transgender Debate.)

There has never been a more important time for parents and kids to understand God's good design for manhood and womanhood. Confusion reigns in the culture and poor models prevail in the church. This book so clearly and concisely guides young people toward the liberating truth of who God created them to be. Every pastor, youth pastor, parent or influencer should have this handy guide on their bookshelf, so they can be read to give an answer for the hope that lies within them. -- Daniel Darling (Director of The Land Center for Cultural Engagement; author, The Dignity Revolution)

This is a helpful guide to the most debated subject of our age: gender. The material found here is practical and wise. Instead of worrying about how the culture receives us, Seagraves and Leavine point us back to foundations. We must train our children in a biblical worldview. We cannot fail to ground them in the gospel of grace. We love God's design of men and women, and see it as very reality itself. Someone is going to train our children today: either the culture or the church. This guide will help us to raise the generation to know the Lord and to honor his holy Word. -- Owen Strachan (Associate Professor of Christian Theology and Director of the Center for Public Theology, Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; coauthor, The Grand Design: Male and Female He Made Them)

In these days of cultural chaos and confusion, Christians are often left not knowing where to begin to gain a basic foundation on what God has said about pressing issues. If we are honest, sometimes we wonder does the Bible even address some of what is debated today or what is coming as tomorrow’s challenge. That’s why I am so grateful for the Building Foundations series and this volume, Gender: A Conversation Guide. Brian Seagraves and Hunter Leavine write from a perspective of experience as they have navigated these types of conversations with children and teens. Further, they write clearly and helpfully direct the reader to what the Bible says about gender and how to bring that to bear on the pressing questions of our day. In short, it is the right book at the right time. -- Jason G. Duesing (Provost and Associate Professor of Historical Theology, Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary)

Would you like to prepare young minds to navigate discussions about gender or transgender people? This excellent and concise guide provides practical conversation tips to help equip the next generation to confidently stand for biblical truth and compassionately share it with those they know. -- Alan Shlemon (Stand to Reason)

It helps you think through a difficult topic in a simple way whilst being condensed into a small book that can fit into your pocket. I devoured this book in an afternoon, and I suggest that you get a hold of a copy. -- Alistair Chalmers (Assistant Pastor of Bruntsfield Evangelical Church, Edinburgh)

As someone wondering about having children one day, and someone who works with children in the local church, I want to be able to explain complex truths and difficult ideas in simple ways. It was with that latter hat in particular that I wanted to read this book. -- Thomas Creedy

Tell us a little about yourself.  Brian Seagraves is a software developer and Christian apologist. He lives in Tallahassee, Florida, with his wife Patti, where he is part of City Church. Hunter Leavine is the College Director at City Church Tallahassee, Florida. He is married to Hannah, and loves working with the next generation as they discover God's Truth.

What was your motivation behind this project?  To help equip Pastors and parents in discussing gender and how it relates to God's Word. We wanted the project to be biblical, relevant and accessible.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  A more clear understanding of what God's Word tells us about Gender and how we can better communicate that to the next generation.
