Tell us a little about yourself. An accomplished professional with broad-based experience in higher education, instructional design, human resources development, and performance counseling. I have been in ministry for over 20 years. I possess experience in faith-based programs, church management, academics, discipleship, biblical counseling, church ministries, and small group leadership. I am a retired U. S. Coast Guard Chief Warrant Officer (Personnel Administrator). I have been married to my bride for 40 years, we have two children and 6 grandchildren.
What was your motivation behind this project? I wanted to write a book that would show people that even thought we experience educational barriers and disabilities, we can still overcome these obstacles through Christ as our pilot of our life.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? If you have ever felt like you dont measure up or life does not give second chances, then you will love Dr. Vernon Lee Czelusniaks first book, FROM GED TO PHD. In this autobiography, he takes you on an emotional journey through his personal struggles, leading you through his decision to return to school, which ultimately led to obtaining a GED, Masters and PHD. This awe-inspiring book will not only move you, but will empower you to believe that with a little guts and a lot of faith, you can accomplish anything! Be prepared to sit back and get ready to be engaged, encouraged and awakened to the concept of reaching higher for what you want in life. Dr. Czelusniak describes his drive to succeed as the realization that as long as you have air to breathe, determination and are able to visualize the mountain peaks of life, you have to keep climbing. Theres a higher power that comes from our relationship with God that gets you to where you want to be.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I have a great opportunity to reflect on my childhood and teenage years. I was able to clearly see how God had his hand over me even when I did not want him.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I have personally sent a copy of my book to Dr. Tony Evans, Andy Stanley, Greg Laurie, Franklin Graham, and Rick Warren.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: GED to PhD illustrates how a young man living in a dysfunctional family overcame family rivalry, verbal abuse, learning problems and substance abuse. This was accomplished through determination, hope, and faith in completing a PhD. My prayer is that this book will provide encouragement, excitement, and hope for those who are struggling with educational disabilities, low self-esteem, lack of motivation, depression, and addictions. From a young age, I was told that I would not amount to much in life. I was never encouraged to succeed in academics and gave up on life. The minute that God entered my life, He transformed my life. In this book, leaders will experience the different twists and turns on my academic and professional journey. This book will show how my life was transformed from a loser to a winner, a high school drop-out to a Scholar, a general laborer to a college campus president, a non-rated enlisted member to a Senior Chief Petty Officer, then a commissioned Chief Warrant Officer, from a lost young man to a church leader, elder, and minister and from a lost young married man to a father and grandfather. On your journey though life, do not settle by giving up. Instead, look deep inside yourself and find hope through a personal relationship with God.
