I must admit that I am a book addict!!! I just love all different genres of books! But every once in a while, you come across a certain novel that just jumps out at you and grabs your attention and won't let you escape its grasp, not even for food or sleep!! "Gathering Shadows" did this to me. I had previously read Nancy's series, "Road to Kingdom" and enjoyed it immensely, but this book even topped those books! A true mystery with just the right amount of romance! The first page of "Gathering Shadows" grabbed my attention and I could NOT put this book down. A nail biter, sit on the edge of your seat kind of mystery! A Mennonite mystery, with Christian values apparent throughout the story.

The main character, Wynter Evans is a young reporter for a television station in St. Louis, with a bright future awaiting her. However, a tragedy in her past, distracts her from her job. Her brother suddenly disappeared nine years ago. This has haunted her, as he was never found and the mystery never solved. Wynter, unexpectedly comes across a photo of a boy with an eerie resemblance to him and simply can't pass up the chance to track him down. Using research as her cover, she sets out with the station's photographer to the place where the photo was taken, the small, strange town of Sanctuary.

Upon arriving in the town, EVERYONE knew she was there!! Meeting the town's young mayor, Rueben King, could be the best thing in Wynter's quest. Together, they begin to uncover secrets- hidden secrets that could destroy lives of those in Sanctuary if made public. Wynter discovers that her family's past hides in the shadows. SOMEONE will stop at nothing to keep the answers she is searching for hidden for ever- even her life!!

The characters drew me into the plot immediately. I felt their every fear, displeasure, intrigue and also joys. They became real people to me, with very real problems, my friends, with whom I could easily identify.

There were many twists and turns throughout that kept me glued to my chair with book in hand. Around every corner was a new mystery or event that kept me guessing until the final chapter. Nancy Mehl does an outstanding job of keeping you focused on the main plot, while you nervously bite your nails, wondering what will take place next.

A truly intriguing book, one that would appeal to ALL!!

A five star book!! I cannot wait for Book two in the new series, "Finding Sanctuary".

    Surprises galore!

Sanctuary, MO is a quiet time where people go to live when they have secrets.

When Wynter Evans sees a picture of a young man who looks exactly like an older version of her younger brother who was abducted at the age of seven, she concocts a scheme to let her news station boss let her and a photographer head to small towns in Missouri. Wynter finds much more than her brother as she encounters people with secrets, a mayor of a Mennonite town who isn't a Mennonite and who raises emotions she'd thought long dead, and people with smiling faces that hide evil.

A well-written suspense that leaves the reader clamoring for more.

Gathering Shadows is another great suspense filled novel by Nancy Mehl. I loved reading how Wynter struggled with her past and her determination to find her missing brother. There many events that happened in this book associated with her brother. You are left guessing "who did it" all the way to the end. What a shock! I did not see that coming at all. Fabulous read!

Author Nancy Mehl really hit a home run with this book. This story grabs you from the first page until the very last page. For me this was one of the most exciting books in the mystery department that I have read in a while.

If you love suspense/mystery this is the read for you. The author takes your emotions and runs wild with them. I literally was on the edge of my seat wondering what twist and turn would take place next.

The small town called Sanctuary is filled with suspicious people with hidden secrets. Secrets that some hope will never surface.

Most of the characters in this book are delightful and I found myself wanting to be friends with them and help them put all the missing pieces together. I wanted to protect them from the unknown and to keep them safe.

The author throws in just enough faith, trust, forgiveness and God's love to give you plenty of feel good feelings. When we listen to God's leading we can never go wrong.

I highly recommend this book. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars, it is that good!

I can't wait to read book two in this series. I'm hoping to find out what happens to my favorite characters!

I was provided a copy of this book from the author and Bethany House Publishers to read and review. The opinions expressed are mine alone.

Gathering Shadows is built on such an interesting premise. The possibility that an abducted child could have been hidden away in an Old Order Mennonite family for ten years caught my attention and I knew that this was a book I wanted to read.

The story started out at a slow and steady pace as Wynter began making contacts and gathering information. I liked how we learned a little bit here and there from Wynter, and eventually from her father, about the details of Ryans abduction and of other interesting information from their family life. Every piece of knowledge the author allowed the reader to discover helped me to slowly place the pieces of this puzzle together.

There is light romance in the novel between Wynter and the honorary mayor of Sanctuary, Reuben King. However, their romance, although sweet, blossomed rather quickly and was not the driving force in the story for me. As I passed the halfway point in the book, the action and suspense in the story began to pick up and the romance began to feel like a good fit to me. I believe that the times of danger and trial could help two people, such as Wynter and Reuben, realize their feelings for each other very quickly.

I really enjoyed this story from start to finish and have to admit that for the last quarter of the book, I could not set it down! The author did a great job of creating a suspenseful story that kept me guessing over portions of the mystery until the very end. I was able to piece together part of what might have happened to Wynters brother, but only in the last couple of chapters were all of my questions answered, and they were answered in a very fulfilling way. I definitely look forward to reading more books in the Finding Sanctuary series.
