Tell us a little about yourself.  Rachel Dodge teaches college English classes, gives talks at libraries, teas, and book clubs, and is a writer for the popular Jane Austen's World blog and Jane Austen's Regency World Magazine. Rachel is the author of The Anne of Green Gables Devotional: A Chapter-By-Chapter Companion for Kindred Spirits and Praying with Jane: 31 Days Through the Prayers of Jane Austen. She is passionate about encouraging and equipping families to grow closer to Jesus through prayer and the study of God's Word.

What was your motivation behind this project?  I'm a lifelong Anne of Green Gables fan and classic literature fan, and my motivation was to create a devotional book that people would love to read. I designed it to be warm and inviting and lovely. I hope it's the kind of devotional that people will come back to again and again. For those who might struggle to stay consistent with daily devotions, this book is meant to provide a creative and inspirational way to meet with Jesus regularly and make devotional time a daily habit.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  This book is an invitation to explore the spiritual themes in Anne's story and God's unique plans and purposes for your life as a child of God. It's designed as a devotional companion to the beloved classic Anne of Green Gables and includes a corresponding devotional entry for each chapter of the book. Each entry features key Bible verses, examples from the book, thoughts for personal application, and a short prayer. There are discussion questions and a glossary at the back of the book. You can read this devotional on your own, with your family, in a group, or with a bosom friend!

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  This is a project I worked on during a time when I was grieving the loss of a very close family friend, someone who was there for me all my life. He was like a "Matthew Cuthbert" to me. As I wrote this devotional, my Heavenly Father ministered comfort and healing to my heart. I grew in my understanding of God's great love for me and my standing as His daughter through faith in Christ. I look back fondly on writing this book because the Lord was very close to me as I wrote.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  I'm a great fan of L.M. Montgomery, Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, Louisa May Alcott, Laura Ingalls Wilder, C.S. Lewis, Janette Oke, Grace Livingston Hill, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Jan Karon. I enjoy reading classic literature and books that take me back in time. I also love reading Christian biographies and histories. There is so much to learn from the people who came before us!

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  If you've never read Anne of Green Gables, you can read it a chapter at a time as you read this book. There are also lovely audiobook versions of Anne of Green Gables you can enjoy, too!
