In this book, Asheritah Ciuciu tackles food fixation, defined as "the inordinate preoccupation with thoughts of and longings for food." Right from the start, Asheritah identifies our struggle with food fixation as a spiritual problem. God gave us the good gift of food, but for so many of us, food has become an idol: we give more time and energy to thinking about food than we do our relationship with Christ, and we find more delight in food than we do in our relationship with Christ. And lest you think that this is only true for those who are overweight and gluttonous, it also applies to those who are taken up with healthful eating as well.

The book is divided into four sections. In the first section, we learn to identify the root problem behind food fixations, and how to apply Scriptural truth to the lies that the enemy would have us believe as it relates to food.

In the second section, Asheritah shares about her own food addiction journey and how God awakened a hunger in her for a deeper relationship with him. She also talks about spiritual disciplines that help us grow in relationship with God--worship, prayer, fasting, spending time in the Word, memorizing Scripture, and so on.

The third section is primarily helpful tips and practical application, along with Scripture references to aid in the battle. Identifying food triggers, setting boundaries, creating healthy habits, principles for lifelong victory, and how to handle failure are some of the topics addressed here.

In the final section, Asheritah talks about the importance of community as we navigate these issues. In most of our church cultures, food fixation is a sin that gets the "wink and nod" but we can support each other and walk together in forming biblical theology of food and finding healing from these addictions. She also discusses how to serve others with food and how to relate to people in our lives who are struggling with food addictions. In the last chapter, Asheritah talks about life changes and challenges in which "we are often unprepared to face food struggles that slip in through the back door when we're least expecting them." She identifies some of these transitions/challenges, and gives tips for evaluating, adapting and overcoming the unique food struggles they can bring.

Each chapter ends with questions for reflection and discussion, as well as bonus content that can be found online.

As one who identifies with the food fixation battle, I found this book challenging and encouraging.

I received a copy of this book from Moody Publishers in exchange for my review.

Full: Food, Jesus, And The Battle For Satisfaction by Asheritah Ciuciu is a closelook at Asheritah's own struggle with food fixation, and the long journey she's been on to replace her out-of-control desire for food with a deeper desire for Jesus. This is not a recipe book or a "how to eat well" manual. Instead, Asheritah shares practical, personal, and Biblical wisdom to help us learn why we have trouble stopping ourselves after "just one more bite", what the real enemy is (it's not the food), and how we can strengthen our personal relationship with Jesus in order to trulyrely onGod tosatisfy us.

Each chapter has study questions and a link to onlinebonus material, which includes videos, bookmarks, journal pages, and more. Asheritah combines her radiant sense of humor with her passion for God in a way that leaves you feeling refreshed and eager to dig deeper into Jesus to seek the fullness that you long for. She discusses diet fads, fasting, calorie counting, fixation triggers, how to enjoy food according to God's plan, and important notes about how our church communities can help ease food fixationissues within their ministries.

Overall, I'd recommend this book to anyone dealing with food fixation on a first-hand or second hand level. So if you're sitting there thinking "I don't have a problem with food fixation, but my daughter/co-worker/friend does", then this book will provide you with invaluable tools to help your loved ones overcome the grip food has on them, while strengthening their bond to Christ. 5/5 stars.

This is an amazing book and I would not call it a diet book it is a book that changes your life - no - your whole life and mind regarding how you live regarding food. It hits you in the face right off without mincing any words that food is your idol - yes your idol - I never really thought of it that way but it put it this way - "ask yourself if any of these statements are true of you: I could never give up my favorite food or I spend more time and energy thinking about food than I do growing in my relationship with CHRIST. I find more delight and happiness in food, or than in my relationship with CHRIST. If you answered yes to any of the statements above, chances are you're turning to food as an idol," MIND BLOWING isn't it? This book tells you this but it doesn't just leave you there it takes you there and then it helps you go deeper and then heal and break the bondage of the devil and let GOD set you FREE, FREE FREE. How good that feels to finally be free. You really need to get this book if you are struggling with food and I tell you this book is worth every second you spend with it. I received a copy of the book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I have read a ton of books on dieting. I've even read a number that drew my attention to the spiritual aspect of being overweight. But I have never read a book that identifies the core issue with such clarity as this one. And I have never read a book that has offered such practical suggestions to help me with that spiritual issue.

Ciuciu is blunt. Food cravings are meant to turn us to God, not a diet book. We don't need another diet. We need the Holy Spirit. She lets us know that food will never satisfy us. We are to find our satisfaction in God. Looking for satisfaction elsewhere is idolatry, a spiritual war we are in. Satan will use whatever tool he can to distract people from seeking satisfaction in God...

I've heard that before but what impressed me here is that Ciuciu goes to great lengths to explain how to stir up a hunger for God. It takes time and work and includes prayer and action. We must be continually resetting our minds toward God. She shares her own experiences and struggles and that section alone is worth reading the book.

In addition to practical spiritual help, Ciuciu also gives practical help in taming the role of food in our lives. She writes about triggers, for example, and how they are designed to turn us to God.

This book is, by far, about finding our satisfaction in God. Idolatry is believing God is not enough and that I need something other than Him to be satisfied. If all our needs are met in God, if He becomes our satisfaction every morning... we will not look for satisfaction in food.

This is a hard hitting book yet is filled with compassion and practical help. Ciuciu has added a Digest the Truth section after each chapter with questions for individual or group use. I highly recommend this book to anyone willing to face the spiritual reality about food obsession.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.
