Product Description

What miracles do we miss when we close our eyes to the wonder of everyday moments?

In this busy, jaded world of ours, we often take for granted what we see every day. We may set aside time to spend with God in a quiet room, but we struggle to see his hand in a traffic jam or while walking the dog. But for Karen Wingate, sight itself is something extraordinary, and what our eyes can reveal is even more astounding.

Karen lived most of her life with severely limited sight due to a cluster of disorders stemming from a genetic defect. But through the chance outcome of a surgery, she regained sight in one eye that doubled her visual acuity--and allowed her to see things she had never seen before. And as she discovered a more detailed world for the first time, she also began to see God in every new discovery--from the prosaic numbers of a bathroom scale to the glory of sunsets.

With Fresh Eyes invites readers to not only celebrate the gift of their own sight but also reawaken the wonder of what they observe in creation--great and small--and how God is working in everyday moments. In each of her sixty meditations, Karen's humor and whimsy draw a connection between physical sight and spiritual understanding that will leave readers with a renewed joy and delight in what is good and beautiful, and will reassure them that God still works in the lives of his people.

Karen Wingate’s vivid descriptions, poignant insights, and overwhelming awe of God’s goodness opened my eyes to the evidence of God’s presence all around me. "In this thoughtful and beautifully written book, Karen Wingate provides a refreshing perspective on life challenges, renewed vision, and God’s faithfulness." -- Candy Arrington, author of Life on Pause

"Rather than focusing on her miraculous recovery of sight, Wingate invites her readers to see God's miracles all around them. It is, indeed, an eye-opening book!" -- James N. Watkins, award-winning author, speaker, and editor of Intimacy with Christ

"Karen Wingate’s warm, personal messages are deeply relatable yet challenged me to look at things in a different way. I’m grateful for that. "In 60 brief chapters, Wingate shares the small and joyful experiences of her new eyesight and offers short homilies on topics such as gratitude or trusting God. . . . A promising work for Christians looking for vibrant personal devotions or material for sermons." -- Publishers Weekly

Tell us a little about yourself.  Hi, I'm Karen Wingate. I'm just an ordinary woman who has seen amazing things and I love to tell the story. For 55 years of my life, I was labeled as legally blind. Despite that and through that, God has guided me through a writing career, motherhood, and working beside my pastor husband in small, located church ministry. Then, in 2016, I underwent surgery for a torn retina and the surgeon discovered he could do several procedures that would improve my eyesight. For the first time in my life, I saw details I had never seen before.

What was your motivation behind this project?  I could see so many new things. And I was learning so much about creation, how God works, and who God loves through my new eyesight. I decided to use my gift or writing to share with others what God was teaching me through the process of discovering my new eyesight. God reallycan to what we would consider impossible and He loves each of us lavishly and cares about even the smallest detail of our lives.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  As you read With Fresh Eyes, I hope you will see the world, the God you love, and faith in God's ability to do the ipossible in fresh ways. I pray you'll pause and praise God for what He has done and that you'll see how eyesight is a precious but fragile gift, not to be taken for granted.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  Each chapter became an act of worship as I asked the Lord, "What do You want me to see about You in this particular chapter. I wrote the manuscript during the COVID shutdown and it was a beautiful time of learning to appreciate who God is and all that He has done in fresh ways.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  I love the works of Anne Voskamp, Lysa TerKeurst, and Max Lucado. The music of Steve Green and Mandy Harvey have also inspired me.
