Stop. Slow down. Be present. The moment matters.
Like a photographer or storyteller, Jesus exhibited time and again how easy it is to capture moments of profound importance just by noticing, stopping, and responding to his surroundings. In a world moving way too fast, Framing Faith is a book for people seeking to focus their lives, to find a deeper knowledge of God, and a more authentic Christian faith. In this modern age, many of us fill every spare moment we have rather than taking an intermission to see the true works of God and realize that he is present in every moment.
Matt Knisely communicates biblical truths in a fresh way, allowing you to really hear them, as if for the first time. He illustrates a new way to see God and to help us live in the moment through the exploration of various photography concepts, including perspective, composition, processing, and darkness versus light. His probing questions and unexpected presentation lead readers into a place of honest self-examination, causing them to ask, Am I listening to God? Framing Faith provokes its readers toward reflection; it reveals God is in everything we see and do.
Matt Knisely is an Emmy Award winning photojournalist, storyteller, creative director and artist who loves telling stories of the extraordinary in the ordinary. He has been described as one of the most versatile photojournalists working today, and has a national reputation for his unique approach to visual storytelling. He is the creative director for Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas. Matt's work has won many honors, including the Edward R. Murrow Awards for photography.

the metaphor is photography
each part of the book FOCUS, CAPTURE, DEVELOP applies not only to photography
but also to life
"For me, each photo I take needs to say something very clearly. The message and the meaning cannot be ambiguous. The images shape my half-articulated feelings, casting light into my inner depths and exposing my deepest, truest self. The way I process my work is a reflection of how I process life."
~Matt Knisely in Framing Faith
I read the book because my sister and my dad are photographers
in fact, I got the book for my sister
but wanted to read and review it before giving it to her
I didnt think it would be very applicable to me personally
but I was wrong
because the images expressed on the pages of this book
reveal the truth about every art form
photography, writing . . . and simply doing life
"[Writers] write with detailed precision in an attempt to make sure every word counts, so that only the backspace key knows the true work that has been put into a sentence."
~Matt Knisely in Framing Faith
I recommend this book to artists of all kinds
that they may gain a deeper understanding of the art of making art
as well as the art of life
And I recommend this book to those who dont think they are artists
that they may find that they too create art
in their everyday lives
Note: I received this book free from the publisher through BookLook. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

But this one that Id never even heard of jumped out at me instead and demanded my attention. Im so glad it did! I loved the thoughts contained in this book; I will definitely read it again.
I realize that it might not be everyones kind of read, but, if you enjoy seeking God in the ordinariness of life, discovering connection between random events and Gods attempts to communicate with you, you will appreciate Matt Kniselys insights, presented through the eyes and words of a photojournalist.
The book is divided into three sections: Focus, Capture, and Develop. Each of these sections contains chapters related to that aspect of photography in turn relating the word to life. I really appreciated the descriptions of each chapter included in the Table of Contents. These helped me to better understand and focus on each of Kniselys points. Bible study, quotations from well-known authors, and the authors personal experiences turned into analogies also made his message clear. Each new chapter built upon the last, bringing the overall purpose of the book to light.
If youre looking for inspiration to live in the moment and see God in new ways, at work everywhere, I recommend "Framing Faith" to you. I especially recommend it to photographers, writers, artists, and storytellers of all kinds.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for this honest review.

In this too fast paced world today, with so many distractions, it was nice to be reminded to slow down and wait for God to speak to us. As a creative person myself, Matt connected with me and the distractions I face every day. This book is a keeper for more future readings.
MitchRoushAge: 25-34Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5A B-12 Shot for the Soul!July 16, 2014MitchRoushAge: 25-34Gender: maleEvery-so-often a book comes along at the perfect time.
The context of your life crashes with the brutal therapeutic truth provided on the pages. It seems as though the very moment you decided to crack it open was pre-determined for this exact moment. As if the universe was aware you needed to experience something you weren't aware existed. And with each turn of the page, you find yourself feasting more and more on the discoveries shouting from the text.
Every-so-often a book manages to create the sense of sitting at the feet of the writer over coffee.
Within each catch-phrase or bold-statement or perfectly crafted story you gain this sense that you not only needed this book, but that you could see yourself becoming friends with the author. The way they share their story, the authenticity, the vulnerability all create a judgement-free haven of sorts. The book itself is more a vehicle of building up your courage to embrace what you're discovering about yourself.
Every-so-often a book carves its way into your soul, speaking truth, igniting healing & breeding courage.
As you dive deeper and deeper into the words, the soul poured out onto the page, you can't help but feel yourself growing. Accepting the hard-to-swallow truths have never been so easy. Yes, feather ruffling as they may be, they're still true. And you find yourself being honest with your reflection for the first time in a while.
Such is the case with Matt Knisely's new book, "Framing Faith".
A book of creativity, raw stories, darkness & light, searching for stillness and presence and so much more-FRAMING FAITH has found a way to breathe new life into the bedraggled hearts of the burnt-out or de-churched. A refreshing bout of truth beautifully woven together as a healing-yet-joyful confessional of sorts. It's a book that's easy to read but finds itself weighing heavily on your mind for all the right reasons. A brutally truthful B-12 shot to the soul. FRAMING FAITH is not only one of the most important books of the year-it's one you'll enjoy the challenges it subtly lays at your feet.
I cannot recommend this book enough!
Multiple times throughout reading, I had to stop and share potent quotes with friends and loved ones.

This book will inspire you to live in the moment, and not just in your technology devices. I really enjoyed reading this book, and can say that i'll be able to apply what I learned in practical ways. Matts life is not much different than my own so the book was very relatable. I am forever grateful to Matt for this great work of art.
