Publisher's Description

In the name of the Father, the Son, and ... the Holy Spirit. We pray in the name of all three, but how often do we live with an awareness of only the first two? As Jesus ascended into heaven, He promised to send the Holy Spirit—the Helper—so that we could be true and living witnesses for Christ. Unfortunately, today's church has admired the gift but neglected to open it.

Breakthrough author Francis Chan rips away paper and bows to get at the true source of the church's power—the Holy Spirit. Chan contends that we've ignored the Spirit for far too long, and we are reaping the disastrous results. Thorough scriptural support and compelling narrative form Chan's invitation to stop and remember the One we've forgotten, the Spirit of the living God.

Author Bio

A pastor and church planter based in San Franciso, Francis Chan speaks to tens of thousands of people around the world every year. Known for his passionate, biblical style, Chan is on the board of World Impace and is the author of Forgotten God, Erasing Hell, and Crazy Love, which has sold nearly two million copies.

Publisher's Weekly

The author of the bestselling Crazy Love pleads passionately for the church to live by the power of the forgotten God: the Holy Spirit. Calling Christians to more than just a better life, Chan says he wants to live a life unexplainable without the Holy Spirit, so dependent on the Spirit that, he says, “if he doesn't come through, I'm screwed.” He offers vivid personal stories and illustrations about how the church ought to help Christians discern the powerful gifts of the Spirit, rather than toning down radicals. Biographies of people “keeping in step with the Spirit” conclude each chapter. Not a comprehensive study but intended for application, it consequently lacks depth of context in most Bible references. Ultimately, though, this serves Chan's aim to end ceaseless talk and follow God's lead to assist the poor, the abused and anyone without hope. Chan himself has given all royalties from Crazy Love to a ministry to children trapped in sex trafficking, explaining that God said to him, “I want you to love them as your own children.” Chan's voice is fresh, earthy and fiery. **What the book is about?

Francis Chan writes about the power of the Holy Spirit in the lives of every Christ follower.

    **Favourite lines in the book:

"... the Spirit is more obviously active in places where people are desperate for him, humbled before Him, and not distracted by their pursuit of wealth or comforts..."

** What I loved most about the book?

I have personally been rebuked by this book and it made me carefully consider whether or not I put my faith into action. I love that, after the end of each chapter, Francis Chan included testimonies of other believers who have dedicated their whole lives in obedience to the Word of God and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The testimonies really allowed me to understand each topic in a deeper sense - actions truly speak louder than words.

**Length of the Book: There are 7 chapters and about 15 pages to read per chapter.

For years this book just sat on my bookshelf collecting dust, but when I finally picked it up and read it I instantly regretted not picking it up sooner. Wow!!! This book was revolutionary to me and my thinking of/on the Holy Spirit. So much so, that I bought some for our local Bible Study group. It has been amazing to watch them grow and have their eyes open to things that they've never considered before.

This is a very easy read, though for some people it may be a little heavy, and is full of some wonderful insight about the Holy Spirit. I especially love that the author doesn't come at the theology of the Holy Spirit from a denominational point of view, but from the view of what the Scriptures say.

This is a worth while book to get and have within your library!!!

This review was written for Forgotten God - eBook.
We bought this ebook for a Bible Study at our church. In looking it up before we purchased we were hesitant to buy but we decided to go ahead with the class. The underlying exegesis is lacking. Things seem to picked out of here and there and throw together into a book and Study Guide. It also seems to foster the notion that people are afraid of the Holy Spirit or some such. It is confusing and it is hard to grasp what the author is really trying to say about the Holy Spirit.

Excellent, easy read, easy to understand. Francis Chan writes as if he is sitting right there with you discussing the wonderful gift God has given us, the Holy Spirit.
