RuthUpstate SCAge: 45-54Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Forgiven (Roberts/Windle) UnforgettableMarch 1, 2016RuthUpstate SCAge: 45-54Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 0This review was written for Forgiven: The Amish School Shooting, a Mother's Love, and a Story of Remarkable Grace. What can one say when horror and heartache come to reside together at the same time? That I am impressed with the telling? With the writer? With the sharing of this tragedy? Yes, and yes again.
To find such forgiveness is a purely miraculous gift from God. Our human hearts are not capable of it except as and when given by God ... and accepted!
One reviewer did see the writing style - I never even thought about it.
My recommendation is to get this book, read it, but digest it. Go back and re-read what touches YOUR heart most deeply. Mark, put sticky tags at the places that would prod you to further consideration and perhaps even to action. Need to forgive someone who wronged you? Need to try to help someone?

Brianna5 Stars Out Of 5Book Review: ForgivenNovember 29, 2015BriannaQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Forgiven: The Amish School Shooting, a Mother's Love, and a Story of Remarkable Grace. In Forgiven, Terri Roberts tells the story of the Nickel Mines Amish school shooting, an act committed by her son. The tragic aspects of the story were widely covered by media in 2006, but in Forgiven, Roberts unveils the hope that occurred after and in spite of the shooting. She writes from a unique perspective, with experiences that few others can identify with. As such, it is easy to give labels, such as the shooters mother. However, Roberts incorporates the stories of her family of raising her children, of cancer, of personal growth, of the shooting and describes the emotional impact of these stories in such a way that the reader cannot help but learn to know Roberts as someone other than the shooters mother.
Through her stories, Roberts also shares the importance of moving forward rather than moving on. This is a crucial reminder in a day and culture where we are generally expected to move on and get better after a short time of grief. In reality, the grief, pain, or hurt, never leave completely, and we are left to feel like we have failed. Roberts encourages her readers to recognize grief and to be honest about the emotions it provokes, but to allow the grief and emotions to be transformed into something greater.
I highly recommend Forgiven to anyone looking for a captivating and thought-provoking read.

LeAnneGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Forgiven by Terri RobertsNovember 20, 2015LeAnneGender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Forgiven: The Amish School Shooting, a Mother's Love, and a Story of Remarkable Grace.Terri Roberts life seemed to be going well. She was happily married, had a good career, and was the mother to 4 grown sons. But in the fall of 2006 her oldest son went to a Amish schoolhouse and shot ten girls, killing five of them, before taking his own life. Forgiven is a book about his mother, and how with her faith and close friends she pulled through all the terrible things that happened. She shares her journey and her amazing experience of grace and forgiveness at the hands of the Amish community.
I do not normally read very many nonfiction/autobiography type books. Because it can be really hard for me to find a good one that does not leave me feeling worse at the ending than before I started reading it. But I am really glad I tried this book! Even though Terri went through a very hard time with the death of the Amish school girls, and also losing her own son because of the acts he committed. It was amazing to see how the Amish responded with such kindness and forgiveness. The writing in this book was wonderfully done. It was like getting a peek into the life of Terri Roberts, and seeing how she pulled through everything that happened. Even though she did not have a easy life, it was inspiring to see the way Terri's faith helped her through all the storms in her life.

KavRCanadaGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5InspiringOctober 31, 2015KavRCanadaGender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Forgiven: The Amish School Shooting, a Mother's Love, and a Story of Remarkable Grace. From bitterness comes grace. A gut-wrenching account of what happened before and after the horrific shooting that changed so many lives. This compelling read portrays forgiveness the way God meant it to be. It is by no means an easy thing -- for the person extending forgiveness or even the one receiving it. In fact, when you take in the dire circumstances this Amish community experienced, it's next to impossible to comprehend such an all encompassing act of forgiveness.
With unfailing courage, Roberts bears her soul in order to share the power that came from this remarkable grace. It broke through unspeakable pain and deep sorrow, bringing the light of Christ-like love -- a healing balm that brought hope to all touched by this tragedy. And now, this book, spreads that message out into the world.
A transforming read that challenged me to take a deeper look at what forgiveness means to me.

That is just a few things to say about this story. Terri tells the true story about forgiveness, in a way only GOD could have wanted her to tell it. Do not start reading this story in the evening because you won't be able to put it down until the very end. I was inspired, impressed, shocked at the kindness and amazed at how well this story is written. To have a mom that her son decides one day, without any warning to go into an Amish school house and shoot 5 children tell her story in such a way that it makes you realize that life is all about forgiveness. I was touched by every page of this story from the beginning to the end. Terri tells of her hurricane battle with cancer and then her Tsunami with her sons tragic event.
I recommend this to everyone!! Read this story!!! Live by her story!! Follow her 8 "What now?" moments at the very end of the book. Anyone who reads this will not be disappointed..... while reading and after you finish this book you will be blessed... I can't say it enough.... READ THIS BOOK, GIVE THIS BOOK, SHARE THIS STORY!!!!
