I think this is about the 4th, or so, Regina Jennings book that I've read. Read and most definitely enjoyed. Like the others there is plenty of romance and laugh-out-loud moments, but For The Record also seemed to have a little more danger and mystery, elements that I really liked. I'm just sorry to be saying goodbye to the characters, like Betsy, who have become friends over the Ozark Mountain Romance series.

In many ways For The Record is a coming-of-age story, Betsy is determined to make a financial go of things to ease the burden on her family but she's also a little naive and starry-eyed. But as she and Joel butt heads and cross words she begins to grow up beyond the silly notion of a handsome prince on a white charger and to fall in love with a very real, and sometimes flawed, man.

Whether you love historical romance or a good Regina Jennings book, For The Record is the perfect choice to while away a few hours in delicious reading.

(I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are entirely my own.)

Oh dear! Betsy Huckabee thought she had the perfect plot to finally move out of her uncle and aunt's home and into her own place. It should have worked. Really it should have. The new Deputy in town simply had to be dramatically heroic - enough to make the ladies swoon - and she'd have the perfect stories to send into the lady's fictional section of the newspaper in order to make a few dollars.

The problem is... he really is heroic (when he isn't being a complete annoyance) and he's also incredibly handsome (Too handsome). The big city newspaper also makes a rather big mistake and publishes her fictional stories in the true news section.... the results of which are NOT pretty.

Between masked vigilantes, stubborn ponies, crazy mountain men, and vivid imaginations... this story is a fun read.

This is a classic romantic comedy: light hearted, fun, enough mystery to keep you turning the pages, and corny but in a really sweet way.

There are a few romantic sections that might not be appropriate for a younger audience - nothing scandalous, by any means - but I wouldn't give this book to someone under 15.

Thank-you to Graf Martin Communications and Baker Publishing Group for a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

There were several things I liked about this tale. First, there were layers of mysteries going on at the same time, but it didn't feel muddy or confusing to the main plot. Since a journalist and a lawman are both the types of people expected to encounter and help mend unusual situations, it was fitting that they were in the middle of several things at once. The story moved along well and was actually quite funny in places.

I also enjoyed the way Jennings' use of language seemed true to the historical era. Among her characters, one "smelled like a vat of pickles," one "picked his teeth with a knitting needle," and one's "legs were as stable as soaked white oak splits on basket-making day." From washing out crockery to using shaving soap, from washing in the creek to the obvious separations between men and women or locals and out-of-towners, her descriptions seemed authentic and not forced. The slang and nicknames seemed appropriate to the time period and not corny. I liked that.

I look forward to reading another novel by this author and would even read this one again.

I was grateful to receive a free copy of For the Record from Bethany House in exchange for an unbiased review of it.

I really enjoyed For the Record...it takes readers back to Pine Gap, Missouri. Big Texas deputy Joel Puckett is desperate to prove himself in the tiny town that needs the law. Betsy is trapped in the town that she loves, but she wants to make her own place in the world. The sparks fly as these two interact while Joel is trying to bring law and order to a community that likes to take things into their own hands. Betsy unintentionally creates havoc in his life, and they have to choose whether they're going to love each other anyway. It's a fun read, and I loved the glimpse at prior characters -- though you don't to read the prior books to enjoy this one. Perfect for lovers of historical, 1880s romances filled with humor and delightful characters.

The suspense was a little flat but it wasn't the main focus. The romance between Joel and Betsy was the main focus and I enjoyed the banter and dynamic between the two of them. It was easy to feel along with the two of them and understand their motivation behind some of what they did. It was a cute little romance with some suspense, but it didn't have much substance to it. I was a little disappointed with the ending because it was hyping up to lead to a head but it never really lived up to the hype.
