Designed to accompany Institute for Excellence in Writing's Structure & Style curriculum, this supplementary curriculum will help students learn to integrate IEW techniques with topics from the Narnia stories. Using the first three novels of The Chronicles of Narnia (The Magician's Nephew, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and The Horse and His Boy), these 31 lessons encourage students to experience the enchanted land of Narnia through structure and style. This course is designed to be used by an instructor who has been through the Teaching Writing: Structure and Style seminar and is familiar with IEW writing techniques.
The Student Book gives reading assignments from the novels, source texts on related topics, key word outlines to fill in, checklists, assignments, wordlists, and more!
The Teacher's Manual is a necessary component of the course. Inset, reduced-size student pages are included with the correct answers overlaid. Notes and information for the teacher is provided in the margins surrounding the student pages; the notes guide teachers/parents through each lesson with in-depth explanations, tips for teaching, checklists, and other helpful notes.
Middle school students (grades 6-8). 31 lessons; suggested schedule covers 1 lesson per week including editing & writing time.
This 3rd Edition has updated the Teacher's Manual so that it now includes inset student pages, In the student workbook, lessons have been revamped; some include new source texts, and checklists have been updated.
