My First 100 Signs: Baby Sign Language Book is full of useful, easy to teach signs. Although this book is marketed for 6 months and up, the content feels appropriate for beginners of any age. I felt like a couple of the signs may have been better received if there were multiple steps. Overall this book is visually appealing, and perfect for anyone interested in learning simple sign. -- - Talicia Ajruloski
This book is a great introduction to sign language for those under 3. The words given are all common for kids to use, and the picture along with the description are easy to follow. I do wish the picture with the sign was a bit larger, since it can be hard to see the arrows at times and understand how to move the hand to create the sign, but I do love that the children are diverse and not all the same over and over again. I would highly recommend this book for those who are wanting to learn basic signs to use with little ones around them! -- - Shannon Williams
This book is so adorable! All of the illustrations were incredibly cute. While I don't remember all of the signs I just read right away, I will definitely enjoy going back to review them. The instructions and diagrams were very clear and easy to use. I look forward to using these signs in the future, since it's been shown to be so beneficial for babies. -- - Alex Halasz
This book is so great! I loved that each page was a different word, organized alphabetically, and that each word gave a visual in the form of a cartoon person making the signs (with small arrows indicating motion, if applicable) along with a written explanation for how to actually make the signs. The illustrations are amazing and my seven year old loved learning the signs with me so we could use them with her brother (aged 15 months). We will be using this book regularly (and have been!) and highly recommend it! -- - Lynn Krueger-Andes
This is such a good start to teach your baby sign language! I loved the tips for success and the sign language alphabet at the beginning! The reminder for parents and caregivers that babies learn a ton through watching their environment will not always respond right away is so important too. I wouldn't have minded the pictures of the signs being slightly bigger but the colors, pictures, and wording all fit together well. I think that more people need to learn a baseline of ASL and this is a wonderful place to start! -- - Abby Gust
My First 100 Signs is a great introductory baby sign book. It provides tips for success, as well as a wide range of signs. I appreciate that it suggests to go with the child's interests over a prescribed list of words/phrases. The pages are colorful and show cartoon people doing the sign, plus a written description of the motion. Having both options would be helpful for people with different learning styles. -- - Nellie McCarthy
My First 100 Signs is a super practical, colorful intro to baby sign language. The graphics are bright and baby-friendly, and the sign choices are actually useful in real life (the 'milk / more / all done' type of words you'll use daily, not random filler). It feels easy to pick up and use during normal routines, and I can see how it would reduce frustration and help with bonding. Honestly, it's one of those books I'd definitely use in the future with a baby. -- - Pamela Shrewsbury
As a first-time mom who's really excited about teaching my babies sign language, My First 100 Signs: Baby Sign Language Book by Lane Rebelo has been a total game-changer for me. I love that it gives babies--even as young as six months--a way to communicate before they can talk, which has already made daily routines so much easier (and way less stressful!). The signs are practical for real-life situations--things like 'milk,' 'all done,' or 'thank you'--and the bright, colorful illustrations really grab my little ones' attention. I've been amazed at how quickly they start to engage with the pages, making it feel like we're having actual little conversations. This book has turned diaper changes, mealtimes, and playtime into meaningful bonding moments. For any new parent who wants to empower their baby with early communication skills, reduce frustration, and build language from day one, this is such a wonderful tool. It's been fun, interactive, and honestly, a joy to use every single day. -- - Robin F.
As a teacher in a deaf resourced school, I truly appreciate how this book introduces children to sign language in such an engaging and accessible way. It's wonderful to see a resource that actively supports inclusion and ensures that all children can participate and communicate together. The illustrations are clear, vibrant, and easy for children to follow, and the accompanying descriptions make learning the signs straightforward and enjoyable. I've think that it will not only helps children pick up signs quickly, but also encourage confidence and curiosity about communicating in different ways. Resources like this play such an important role in fostering empathy, understanding, and connection in the classroom. Most importantly, it helps create a genuinely inclusive environment where deafness is no longer seen as a barrier to conversation, but simply another way of experiencing the world. -- - Cerys Tilt
I loved the illustrations in My First 100 Signs: Baby Sign Language Book and the ease of using it to find a particular word. At the beginning of the book, there is an introduction explaining what age is appropriate to begin introducing the signs to your child, while reminding the reader that each child is different and will learn at different paces. The ASL Alphabet is also included for a nice reference. The book includes 100 signs that would be helpful for teaching babies who can't communicate verbally yet. Words such as milk, more, all done, mom, dad, and many more. The illustrations throughout are bright, colorful, and age-appropriate for children. There is a description of each sign, along with an illustration of what it looks like. Each page includes the word, an illustration of the word for babies to look at, a description of how to make the sign, and a picture of the sign being signed. All the words are in alphabetical order, which makes it extremely easy to reference when looking up a word. The book would make a great baby shower gift or simply a gift for new parents! -- - Michelle A.
I, while not a 6 month old baby, am the perfect audience for this book! I have a 16 month old who knows 'milk' and 'all done, 'eat' and sometimes 'change' for her diaper. But we've been wanting to incorporate more signs into our ever day to day lives. This book is beautiful, simple, and chooses to focus on signs that both parents and babies/toddlers can use in everyday interactions. -- - Magdalena Koszczuk
The words are organized alphabetically and include a mix of practical, everyday terms and fun objects that children are likely to encounter in their daily lives. I highly recommend this book to any parent or caregiver who wants to introduce sign language into their child's vocabulary in a fun and approachable way. -- - Rebecca White
