First Hostage, a J.B. Collins novel by Joel C. Rosenberg
Reporting from Jordan, journalist J.B. Collins finds himself the exclusive reporter for the story of the century – the President of the United States is missing and presumed kidnapped, while several other world leaders are gravely injured. Handling this well could make his career! That he and a few friends are suspected of orchestrating the plot and that his life is in imminent danger are just two tiny glitches in this otherwise golden opportunity – if he lives to publish his story!

I couldn't wait to get back in the car, turn it on and enjoy it, chapter after chapter. So well done that it could have been a news event happening in the here and now! I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Rosenberg always grabs your attention right at the beginning and hangs on until the end. Not good when you want to get some sleep because you just want to keep reading but always a fantastic read.
Connie5 Stars Out Of 5The Third Target and The First Hostage books fit like a gloveFebruary 24, 2016ConnieQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I sat on pins and needles for a year after reading The Third Targetthe first one in this intense two-book seriesand I could not wait for the sequel. In the preface, Joel Rosenberg gives highlights to catch readers up to the cliffhanger sentence, The president of the United Statesis missing, making it the opening sentence of this book.
This series fits together like a glove. Reading both books, along with the escalating current events, gives an uncanny plausible scenario of what could happen as well as insight into the reasons why things are developing as they are.
The main character, J.B. Collins, a New York Times correspondent is given the mission to immediately report the truth about rumors that ISIS captured chemical weapons in Syria. And, if true, what do they plan to do with them? Genocide? Who? When? Where?
At the same time, there is breaking news of a peace treaty between Israel and Palestine to be signed in a few hours. If signed, will the treaty suppress ISIS? Or inflame their mission?
The 430 page book covers a 24-hour period with lasting impact on the entire globe, not just the Middle East. The world is on high alert. As the lead characters work furiously to locate the President before the deadline, a disturbing video is released by the head of the Islamic State: The warriors of the Islamic State are embarked on a brave and glorious mission to.restore this land and its people to the rightful rule of the caliphate and Sharia law.
In keeping with Rosenbergs distinctive writing style, readers can see, hear, and smell the scenes as if there. The chapters are filled with fatal explosions, mysterious murders, and surprising conspiracies.
All story lines are brought to closure in this fast-paced, page-turner book. Though this is the end of this series, the events could continue to develop in real-time news.
(I received a complimentary copy from Tyndale Publishers in exchange for an honest and objective review.)

Kristine MorganLittlefork MNAge: 45-54Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Realistic novel of the Middle EastJanuary 27, 2016Kristine MorganLittlefork MNAge: 45-54Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Wow! I just finished reading First Hostage by Joel Rosenberg and I find my self checking the news sites to see if it really happened. Joel writes a very realistic book which seems as though it could come straight from today's headlines. The novel is fast paced and I did not want to put it down. The character's are well developed and I was truly concerned for their welfare. This is a novel dealing with terrorism and therefore is quite brutal in places. I enjoyed the romance that carried through from The Third Hostage, the first J. B. Collins book. From the ending I believe there will be a third book, as several loose ends remain. :)
I was given this book by Netgalley.com for review purposes with no expectation of a positive review. All thought expressed here are entirely my own.
