Firewall focuses on the work of world-class software developer, Taryn Young, who leads her company's efforts on a major government contract for America's energy pipelines. Following a catastrophic bombing, Taryn realizes her new husband is missing and she is the prime suspect of a major terror attack. Together with FBI Agent Grayson Hall and his uncle, a retired FBI agent, Taryn evades capture in the hopes of proving her innocence and discovering the real cause of the bombing. With layers of intrigue and bureaucracy, they eventually realize just how close they have been to the terrorists all along.
Ms. Mills creates a fast-paced story reminiscent of technology-driven suspense films. As an author with perhaps more experience writing more casual romance (at least for her books that I've read previously), Ms. Mills' number one priority appears to be driving the story forward with exceptional urgency. Taking place over the course of only a few days, Firewall depends on a number of convenient explanations and happenstance scenarios that create a generally-unconvincing story.
Overall, I thought that Firewall made for an interesting one-time read from the library.
"Firewall" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. The characters were interesting and some were developed into complex-motive characters. I found it believable that Taryn was initially fooled even though she's a smart woman, but it did take her longer than I expected to believe the truth. The suspense was from physical danger to several characters; this was a very deadly story to be a character in. There was very little down-time as events raced along. The romance was based on two people coming to trust and care for each other (rather than many repetitions of "(s)he's sooo hot!")
The Christian element was mainly some short prayers asking God to help them with the situation and the realization that God is there with them through the confusion. There were no sex scenes. There was no bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this interesting, suspenseful novel.
Firewall is an outstanding book by Diann Mills. The book keeps you in suspense from the beginning. There are twists and turns throughout the whole book. There is also romance present. This is the first book in a series. I can not wait to read the next one due out in April.
I received this book from the Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion.
With Firewall, DiAnn Mills draws her readers in, holding them breathlessly hostage until the very last page. She is a master at her craft and her genre. I really enjoyed this book and am anxiously awaiting book two in the series when it releases.
I got hooked on DiAnn Mills' writing with her book The Survivor, and I look forward to each new title. I was very excited to read and review Firewall and had been anxiously awaiting its release. As expected she took me on an edge-of-your-seat read that I just couldn't put down.
I kept wondering if Taryn could be involved or if she has been set up. If she's been set up then who did it and why? Would Grayson continue to help her even when it looked bad for Taryn's honesty?
There was a surprise character that I just fell in love with, he's just great! I'd love to tell you who, but.....I can't spoil the story for you, now can I? Well, let's just say that he's a real buddy when Taryn needs one the most.
I think part of what made the story so riveting is that with the increase in terrorism and violence it is something you could expect to see on the 6 o'clock news. In some ways it was a little scary thinking about an airport bombing, imagining how easily it could happen nearby, to people you know.
One of the elements I liked the most was learning about the investigative process and all of the work that goes into bringing the perpetrators of such a crime to justice. Detailed and interesting but still a novel, a story above all else.
Firewall is exciting, thrilling, and once you pick it up you won't want to set it down until you know who did what and why. Don't miss this latest book from DiAnn Mills!
