Can a hero ever live up to his reputation? For seven years, Ceressa Quarles has secretly admired Latimer Kirkleigh. Latimer has spent those same seven years disappointing everyone he loves. When they reunite, she finds him jaded, arrogant... and still irresistible. He finds her disconcerting, headstrong... and beautiful. As responsibility and tragedy intertwine, Ceressa and Latimer are set upon a course that neither is prepared to travel. Forced to flee her English home, Ceressa accepts a marriage proposal from Latimer and finds herself living in a savage, colonial wilderness embroiled in rebellion. With their lives at risk and any chance at love hidden deep within their precarious marriage of convenience, Ceressa and Latimer battle for the stability of a new world and peace within their own hearts.

Lauretta5 Stars Out Of 5Amazing readJune 28, 2012LaurettaQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Latimer Kirkleigh is an amazing character. I would refer to the way the author brought him out not as character development but rather as character unfolding. She gives you a new glimpse of his true character slowly but surely and one is pleasantly surprised.
I love the interaction between the two main characters and this is constant throughout the whole book.
One has the feel of being in Virginia when reading this book.
The book is way underpriced, but I understand that for a new author to be introduced one has to be enticed to purchase the book.
I look forward to CBD bringing this author's next book out which is already available on other websites.
dianaFlowW Columbia, SCAge: 45-54Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Romance in the Colonies!May 2, 2011dianaFlowW Columbia, SCAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4Barbara Blythe weaves a beautifully written tale of love, hidden passions, and adventure in her new novel, Fire Dragon's Angel. Latimer Kirkleigh, moves from his home in England, to settle in Virginia, a wild new land, fraught with hostile natives, disease, and wild animals. It is also a land of hope and promise, and Latimer determines to make his home there, transporting corn and tobacco to the London markets.
When Latimer's sister is killed, he is left to care for his three year old niece, which necessitates his return to England to marry a woman to help him with the child. Ceressa Quarles is shocked to see Latimer again at a ball given by her godfather. It has been seven long years and Ceressa realizes her childhood crush on Latimer has turned into true love for this man who behaves so rude and arrogant.
When a tragedy occurs, Ceressa must flee her English home, and accepts Latimer's proposal of marriage. However, Ceressa finds she can handle her new responsibilities, the untamed land, and even the natives, better than her new husband's cold indifference. Ceressa's beauty and bravery win the admiration of her husband, but can he ever love her the way she does him? And when Latimer decides to send her back to England, will she go?
Sparks and tension fly high between these two strong-willed characters, but can they ever find love and stability when all odds are seemingly against them? Can they overcome the obstacles in this savage new land as well as the ones in their own hearts?
To colonial era lovers everywhere, this is a must read! Beautifully written, Barbara!!
