Although by no means an "easy read," anyone who takes the time to study Finney's theology & especially his autobiography will be blessed to grasp the depths of the power of the gospel to set us free from sin to be "new creatures" in Christ. Finney is sometimes misunderstood, as some other reviews reflect. A reading of his Autobiography/Memoirs is very helpful before reading his systematic theolgy.

This is a brilliant book and kudos to those who did the research to reclaim the parts that were edited out after Finney's death. Some don't like Finney only because he did not believe God is a celestial puppeteer. If affirming that responsibility implies the ability to respond, is heresy, then I am a heretic. Finney's writings have kept me from throwing God out completely. Thank you.

Must-read book if you want to understand what makes people tick, what God requires of us, and how to be thoroughly Christian. Want to know how one man (before TV or radio) could bring 500,000 to Christ with about 80% remaining faithful? Read this book!

Charles Finney's teaching in "Christ our advocate with the father":...The atonement is already made--this is a prepared salvation; the question is not whether you are going now to work out a salvation of your own, but whether you will accept a prepared salvation, made ready to your hand. What a contrast! How plain was this simple proposition! There it was, plain before me; atonement is made and an advocate stands ready; your consent alone is wanted. This was just as plain to me as if a proposition had been made in writing and it only required my signature to close the contract. This is the case. You are altogether condemned; you can do no works of righteousness to help yourself; yet a remedy is provided; will you accept it?Copyright (c)1999, 2000. Gospel Truth Ministries

Definitely not for those looking for an easy-read. If you are willing to be dilligent, you will find this book to be a treasure. You will also find that all of the allegations leveled against Finney's theology (see above review) are blatantly false.
