Author/Artist Review

Author: Matt Somerlot

Tell us a little about yourself.  I'm a first-time author, and native Georgian with a love of history and scripture who found a way to intertwine them through this bok!

What was your motivation behind this project?  This book came out of a church newsletter in which I incorporated a section called, "This Day in History...with a Biblical Slant." It takes a historical event and ties it to scripture in a way that reveals a relevant truth about God's message. God's fingerprints are all over history, and this book was a way for me to share the quirky connection between a mundane historical event like a birth, death, invention, etc. and tie it back to scripture. It's a fun way to see God in a brand new way!

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I hope that readers will begin to see their own connections when they read about a historical event, but most of all, I hope that it prompts them to open a Bible and learn His story! If we can learn where God was present in history, how might that help us in the future, but also the present? That's the purpose of this book - to lead people to the message of hope!

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  Working on this book forced me to open my Bible, examine full passages of scripture, and develop unique ties that made me study scripture in a brand new way. It was life-changing to see the connections revealed.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  My pastors at my church afforded me the opportunity to explore my Christian journey in a way that gave me clarity about my ability to write, but other authors such as Heather Halloman and Jonathan Dodson have been significant influencers.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  Enjoy this quirky, but fun, daily adventure through history. While you'll learn some really cool facts about what happened on each day of the year throughout history, you'll also see how it ties back to scripture!
