Tell us a little about yourself. I'm an author, voice over artist, and visual artist living in Indianapolis. I am passionate about redeeming the arts through collaborating with the Holy Spirit! I'm married to Danielle and we have two children: Hailee 18, and Kaia 11.
What was your motivation behind this project? I felt compelled to start writing about this subject 10 years ago after a life changing crisis. Now, after a long and amazing journey, this message has finally come out in book form. God's timing seems to be perfect. It appears it may be time for a New Renaissance--a real integration of arts in the church and an infusion of exciting spiritual art into the culture. Many of us have been working toward this goal for decades. And it all falls into place when we learn to collaborate with God!
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? Finding Divine Inspiration aims to encourage artists to become skilled at hearing God's voice and joining in the projects HE wants to bring to the world! We can create all the beautiful and skillful art that we want, but the real power comes when we seek God for His messages and invite Him to collaborate with us in every part of the creative process. As Bono said, "We (U2) write songs that raise the temperature of the room and find words for feeling you can't express. And then, as Quincy Jones said, you wait for God to walk through the door. Because in the end, craft isn't enough." Aren't we all looking for that "Divine Inspiration" in our life and work? I am thrilled and humbled to say that--through willfully collaborating with God-- I've experienced it over and over again, and this book is filled with biblical, historical and current examples of others who experienced it as well.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? My life and work have been transformed as God has led in the process of writing Finding Divine Inspiration: Working with the Holy Spirit in Your Creativity. He has deepened my spiritual life and taught me how to hear from and collaborate with Him! God is working in the arts and He wants to COLLABORATE with us!
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? My influences include: Jesus, Leanne Payne, Dallas Willard, John Eldridge, Bono, DaVinci, Francis Schaffer, Madeline L'engle, Bob Briner...
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: God wants to COLLABORATE with us. In everything! As we join with Him we will become who He made us to be!
