Kelly uses her real life experiences and spiritual wisdom to show us how to conquer those fears. I loved this book! I could relate to so many of the fears Kelly talked about. I had many "aha" moments! I have highlighted so many important quotes throughout the whole book. I feel like I have gained so much insight. I am hoping I can use some of Kelly's wisdom to curb some of my fears! This will be a book that I will keep on my shelves and refer back to it.
I definitely recommend this book to everyone especially those that have fears they want to conquer. I received this book from Baker Books for my honest opinion.

I didn't like the writing style and don't remember much of what was said. I found the writing style to be more of an abstract thing which I didn't like. I also didn't do the group study questions but when I looked at them afterward, they probably would have been a good idea to go through even though I read the book by myself. They would have been more helpful than just reading the chapters and I probably would have remembered more of what I read.

Deuce SkunksSpringfield, MOAge: 25-34Gender: Female4 Stars Out Of 5Easy-To-Read Dose Of Encouragement To Hand Your Fears Over To GodMarch 4, 2017Deuce SkunksSpringfield, MOAge: 25-34Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Fear Fighting: Awakening Courage To Overcome Your Fears by Kelly Balarie is a heavy dose of encouragement for women who are working hard to move past their fears with God's help.
First, Kelly walks with us, hand in hand, as she unveils various circumstances that push us over the edge and falling to our knees screaming for help. God's help. And she gently reminds us that He's always there, just waiting for us to call on Him and come begging and crying to Him when life gets overwhelming and our fear factors start to cave in on us.
What fears? The fears we all deal with almost every day, some just to a greater extent than another. Kelly doesn't directly address the fears, per se. Instead, she walks us through the eight "fear-inducers". Feelings and conditions that keep us chained to and drowning in our fear...
1) The Devil
3) People Pleasing
5) Comparison and Competition
7) Rejection and Opposition
8) The Past
Kelly weaves anecdotes in with scripture, Bible stories, and other insights to share with us the common trials engaged by each of the fear-inducers, as well as ways to move past them and get on with our lives - for the better. Helpful Bible verses and affirmations are in bold print throughout each chapter, encouraging you to take note and memorize or post these thoughts somewhere where you'll see and read them everyday.
Each chapter ends with "something to chew on", which gives you a thought or idea to focus on. The end of the book contains a group study guide, which thoughts, focal points, and questions to go along with each chapter. This study guide would work for individual study as well.
This book is not an intense workbook or Bible study. Instead it is an easy-to-read, close-to-the-heart dose of encouragement and renewal to keep you focused on God and moving forward, letting God turn all of your fears into blessings for you,His preciousdaughter. 4/5 stars.

bookwomanjoanOak Harbor, WAAge: Over 65Gender: Female4 Stars Out Of 5Extensive group discussion guide includedFebruary 25, 2017bookwomanjoanOak Harbor, WAAge: Over 65Gender: FemaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 3We want to be brave and do away with fear. Balarie, in the context of sharing her own experiences, helps readers understand the various origins of fear and how to conquer it.
Balarie's writing style is very conversational. Reading her book is like listening to a friend across a table rather than listening to a teacher. She illustrates her concepts by telling her own stories, those of others, fictional stories, and stories from the Bible. Her writing style would appeal to career age readers, I think.
My favorite part of the book was her teaching on welcoming the Holy Spirit. Wait. Experience. Let the truth be told. Come back to prayer, again and again. Open the Bible. Meditate and communicate. Eyes attentive. (105) She notes that the time and energy we give to welcoming the Holy Spirit may well determine if we find peace with God or panic with worry. (106)
The strength of this book is the twelve week Group Study that is included. This is a relational kind of book and would have the most impact when used in a group context. Balarie suggests grabbing hands with "sisters in courage" and being part of a group study would be a great way to do that.
Food for thought: "If you spend your whole life grasping for happy in the future, you'll end up missing God's transformation in the present." (22)
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.
Terry5 Stars Out Of 5Great Book, Misleading TitleFebruary 21, 2017TerryQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Fear Fighting by Kelly Balarie was a book I didn't expect to find very helpful. Perhaps it was the title; I wouldn't describe my life as filled with fear or seeking the courage to overcome a fear, as the subtitle suggests. So I read Part 1 (the first 3 chapters) thinking, "Yeah, this book might be helpful for someone else, going through something really challenging or trying to overcome a big obstacle in their life, but not me."
THEN came Part 2 - "Spirit Arising: Demolishing the Eight Fear Inducers." I couldn't have been more wrong in my early assessment of this book. Chapter 4 blew me away! Loaded with Scripture references, Balarie teaches the reader how to pray through some powerful portions of the Bible like Ephesians 6:14-17 and Romans 8. She teaches the reader how to overcome the lies that we let the enemy sneak into our minds. Then for the TKO she lists 10 things the devil wants you to believe, and I found myself identifying with each and every one of them. Yikes! This book is most certainly for me! And that's just Chapter 4! Balarie goes on exploring issues like control, people-pleasing, dwelling in the past, and more.
Ignore the title of this book - I would encourage everyone to pick up Fear Fighting and give it a chance. Even if you only identify with a few chapters here and there, you will surely be blessed for discovering the lessons this book teaches on letting go of the lies we hold onto and embracing biblical truth in every area of our lives.
I received this book free from Baker Books through the Baker Books Bloggers. The opinions I have expressed are my own, and I was not required to write a positive review.
