Publisher's Description

Life is often filled with trial, heartache, grief, and struggle. But, perhaps there’s a treasure to be found in those difficult seasons and that treasure is intimacy with God Himself. That should be reason enough to rejoice. So, how do we take God’s command to Pharaoh in Exodus 5 to “Let my people go so they may hold a festival for me in the desert” as a holy invitation to be stripped down and made whole, while still worshipping the one who allows the stripping?

Through vulnerable and transparent stories, Laureen Alexa Trujillo shares her personal testimony of hardship and trial and all that God taught her through suffering. She highlights the faithfulness of God and brings attention to the purpose of her struggle: To learn dependency on God by being exposed to the barrenness of the desert, surrender the false comfort of our personal Egypt, and come out stronger and more refined for the Promise Land we were created to inherit.

Through Festival in the Desert Laureen walks you through the question that confronted her: how do we learn and truly embrace the fact that God can and will work all things together for good as we seek Him and choose to love Him through uncertainty, fear, and hardship? The stories and interactive prompts will point us to the heart of the Father, reminding us that God is faithful, present, trustworthy, and more than capable of making a way for us when there doesn’t seem to be one, ushering in freedom, comfort, and renewed hope.

Tell us a little about yourself.  Laureen has a background in acting and fitness, a heart for Jesus and passion for helping people live their best lives physically, mentally, and spiritually. She currently lives in Los Angeles and is part of a church in Downtown LA called For The Church. When she's not working, writing, creating, studying, working out, or being a social butterfly, you'll find her cuddled up with her dog and a cup of coffee (or two).

What was your motivation behind this project?  I went through an extremely rough season and felt led by God to share my story and the truth that God never leaves us. Every single person will go through suffering and hardship in to some degree or another and I knew that my season of suffering was not in vain. God showed me His faithfulness and reminded me that He is not the author of suffering, He is the redeemer of it, allowing us the opportunity to grow in intimacy with Him and experience healing and even breakthrough from the seasons of life that aim to break us the most. He never let's a single thing be wasted when we choose to see Him in our lives.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  Hope and the ability to feel seen and understood by God. I want the readers to understand that suffering in this world, although inevitable, is not beyond God's grace, nor is it a form of punishment. I want them to experience comfort, freedom, healing, breakthrough, and really encounter God during their season of struggling and hardship, growing in the understanding that God is with them in it.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  In writing the project I not only received more clarity and revelation in regards to my personal season of suffering but incredible healing and freedom. God was really able to go deeper with me in my own heart and uproot lies, toxic beliefs, pride, and stubborn heart postures, allowing me to really sit at the feet of Jesus and experience His love in a greater way.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  Priscilla Shirer, Christine Caine, Lisa Bevere, Bianca Olthoff, and Joyce Meyer.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  This book is extremely interactive and filled with very vulnerable stories. It is purposely designed to draw you deeper in your relationship with Christ and into His holy word for yourself so that you can really experience His presence, grow in knowledge, find healing and comfort, and do the heart- work needed for a life more fully enjoyed even in a world of hardship.
