Product Description

Every three years, in Year B of the Sunday Lectionary cycle, we interrupt Mark's gospel to turn for five weeks to the Gospel of John and Jesus' "Bread of Life" discourse. In Feeding on the Bread of Life, Fr. Anthony Oelrich invites preachers and pray-ers to explore more deeply what it means to see and not see, to eat and believe. Along the way, we discover in Christ Jesus all we hunger for and thirst after.

In this rich homiletic resource, Fr. Oelrich reflects on the texture, complexity, and layers of the mystery of Jesus, the Bread of Life. Never again will priests and deacons "run out" of fruitful directions to explore John 6 with the people they serve during the unique five-week period of Year B, and other readers will appreciate the new windows into the chapter that Oelrich opens up.

Editorial Reviews

Fr. Oelrich, in this work, intends "to stir the imagination of the reader," and to help him or her to encounter Jesus through suggested reflections. He more than accomplishes his goal. Not only are the reflections thoughtful and spiritually provoking, he offers a model of biblical study that well serves both the casual reader and any clergy looking for help in homily preparation. In fact, for the latter, he provides an invaluable resource for what many consider the five most challenging weeks of preaching in the liturgical cycle!
Most Rev. Michael Byrnes, STD, Auxiliary Bishop of Detroit, and Adjunct Professor of Scripture at Sacred Heart Major Seminary

The five successive weeks on which the Sunday gospel reading are taken from John's discourse on the bread of life are a challenge for the preacher and the congregation. What more is to be said? Anthony Oelrich's refreshing book uncovers the dynamic development of the text, and gives a stimulating reflection for every passage.
Timothy Radcliffe, OP, is author of Stations of the Cross and contributor to Give Us This Day published by Liturgical Press

Here is a small book that will get a big welcome from preachers and those seeking to understand chapter 6 of John's Gospel. Either as solid spiritual reading or as a lifesaver for the homilist, Fr. Oelrich's clearly written work is valuable.
Donald Senior, CP, The Bible Today
