The Feasting on the Word series aids clergy in developing and preparing sermons in throughout the year in conjunction with the RCL. Each lectionary year consists of four volumes, one for the Advent and Christmas season, one for Lent and Easter, and one for each half of Ordinary Time. While the twelve volumes of the series follow the pattern of the Revised Common Lectionary, each volume contains an index of biblical passages so that non-lectionary preachers may make use of its contents.
The commentaries provide four essays for each of the assigned RCL passages, and through those essays highlight issues in exegesis, theology, homiletics, and pastoral care as they apply to and are derived from the text. The essays are concise and listed on four columns on facing pages for each RCL passage and extend in continued columns on to necessary additional pages. The biblical passage is listed above the essays on the first page. See Visual Representation More information is available at www.feastingontheword.net

With this new lectionary commentary series, Westminster John Knox offers the most extensive resource for preaching on the market today. When complete, the twelve volumes of the series will cover all the Sundays in the three-year lectionary cycle, along with movable occasions, such as Christmas Day, Epiphany, Holy Week, and All Saints' Day.
For each lectionary text, preachers will find four brief essays--one each on the theological, pastoral, exegetical, and homiletical challenges of the text. This gives preachers sixteen different approaches to the proclaimation of the Word on any given occasion.
The editors and contributors to this series are world-class scholars, pastors, and writers representing a variety of denominations and traditions. And while the twelve volumes of the series will follow the pattern of the Revised Common Lectionary, each volume will contain an index of biblical passages so that nonlectionary preachers, as well as teachers and students, may make use of its contents.
Feasting on the Word is a monumental contribution. These substantially and beautifully produced volumes address the reader with all the gravitas and grace that preaching deserves. Feasting on the Word will richly repay your investment.
The list of authors is broad and diverse, and their backgrounds run the gamut from evangelical to Roman Catholic. There are liberals and conservatives. There are academics and non-academics. Some are well known, and others will be new to readers. All of this makes for a rather unique resource. Feasting on the word can be recommended highly.
-Sharing the Practice
A grand achievement that could well shape fine preaching for a generation to come.
-Peter W. Marty,
Pastor St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport, Iowa
Perhaps the most imaginative commentary on the revised common lectionary to date. A unique and remarkable commentary...already stands head and shoulders above the rest.
-The Living Church
Already recognized as the most ecumenical and comprehensive of the lectionary commentaries...A cornucopia of preaching and teaching insights.
-Thomas G. Long
