Chasing Butterflies2 Stars Out Of 5I didn't like itAugust 15, 2017Chasing ButterfliesQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 1That book wasn't my cup of tea. I do not agree with Michael Youssef's opinion on the end times, his interpretation of scripture and his general worldview. This book was supposed to give hope to its readers, but I think it leaves them more hopeless and sad than before reading this book. Instead of fulfilling the premise, it instills fear in the reader. His suggestions to live "fearless" are trying to convert many people and proclaiming your opinion mercilessly even when you have to expect a huge backlash directed at yourself.
Even though he says that we do not know the date when Christ will return, the author often gives the impression that it is going to happen very soon. It seems like he sees the state of our society as an indicator for his hypothesis and paints a picture that is rather dystopic than realistic. It was just too much and too exaggerated for me. I definitely agree that there are some problematic tendencies in our society, but I think that he only views the negative things. The book was easy to read, but I found his style to be very sensational and polemic.
The only good thing about this book probably is that I now almost completely read through Colossians - and I appreciated a few of his comments and explanations, but most of his interpretations didn't make sense to me.
I don't recommend this book and suggest you should check out some of the other books from Harvest House Publishers, because they have some excellent books that I really liked! But this book and I didn't really get along with each other.
