The study questions at the end of each chapter enhance the book's usefulness as a text and also make it suitable for Bible-study and discussion groups. All Christians and Jews too will profit from Wilson's sensible treatments of biblical texts, his thorough understanding of both the Christian and the Jewish faith, and his honest historical analysis of the general failure of the Christian church to acknowledge and understand its relation to Judaism.

As an introduction to the world of Hebrew thought, Our Father Abraham is biblical, historical, and cultural in nature. At the same time, the writing is personal and passionate, reflecting Marvin Wilson's own spiritual pilgrimage and his extensive dialogue with Jews. The book (1) develops a historical perspective on the Jewish origins of the church, (2) sets forth the importance and nature of Hebrew thought, (3) discusses how the church can become more attuned to the Hebraic mind-set of Scripture, and (4) offers practical suggestions for interaction between Jews and Christians.
The study questions at the end of each chapter enhance the book's usefulness as a text and also make it suitable for Bible-study and discussion groups. All Christians--and Jews too--will profit from Wilson's sensible treatments of biblical texts, his thorough understanding of both the Christian and the Jewish faith, and his honest historical analysis of the general failure of the Christian church to acknowledge and understand its relation to Judaism.
"A magnificent achievement in calling the entire body of Gentile Christianity to reassess the great religion to which it is permanently indebted."

I started it, and would stop after each section to think about what 'd just read, and then re-read it again because I'd see something I'd never saw before. A book thought highly enough of that it's used in universities as a text book on the study of the origins of Christianity.
child of the KING5 Stars Out Of 5WOWJune 4, 2011child of the KINGQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I hav been a born again Christian for 8 years and in the last few years the LORD has really been opening my eyes to Israel, the Jews and the Gentiles(me) and what our specific roles are and the outcome for all our futures when we are in Christ Jesus. This BOOK has been the exact tool I have been praying for so I can understand what 1st century ISRAEL was like as a culture so I can understand who and why the books of the BIble were written and understand it from a JEWISH perspective and not from a western canadian culture perspective so I can see the freedom my Savior came to give me Loving JESUS is a personal relationship not a religious duty of rules and laws and regulations, I do the things I do(Go to a good Bible believing church,Read my Bible and pray EVERYDAY, have my purse equipped with gospel tracts to give to the people the Holy Spirit asks me too and encourage others in the LORD, Share my testimony of what the LORD has done in my life)because I LOVE HIM AND I WANT TO KNOW HIM BETTER EVERYDAY I came to Him for salvation from my sins and I fall more in love with Him everyday! Walking with Jesus is not striving and failing, striving and failing.......I rest in the fact He is changing my life daily as I read His word and pray and I listen and obey Him The Bible is a Jewish book, and JESUS is my JEWISH Savior and I want to know the roots of my Faith :) This book has been a blessing to my life!!!!!

Dr. Conny Williams5 Stars Out Of 5May 22, 2009Dr. Conny WilliamsThis book is an awesome book for studying out roots. I run a local bible college and we will use it as a textbook. The Author is very knowledgeable and the context is a serious one. It is not a light read, but in what I do I don't want light read. It is time that Christians are challenged about their belief and that we go back to our real roots and find out how it worked in Jesus' day.Dr. C
Kerry Fitzpatrick5 Stars Out Of 5June 6, 2008Kerry FitzpatrickI read OUR FATHER ABRAHAM from cover to cover.I found the answers to several questions I had and it explained many things I hadn't thought of yet. It was an enjoyable read and is a great place to start on a quest for roots of faith. I will keep it in my library because I'm sure I will refer back to it several time in the future.
