Publisher's Description

Join Nancy in this comical and endearing addition to the Fancy Nancy I Can Read series, from the beloved New York Times bestselling author-illustrator team Jane O’Connor and Robin Preiss Glasser.

Picture Day is just about the most important day of the year in this delightful school story, and Nancy has her outfit all figured out. That leaves only one thing—picking a hairstyle! Nancy considers the options. Pigtails? A bun? Long and loose? Then Nancy gets a brain wave, and she reaches for the scissors. . . .

Fancy Nancy: Hair Dos and Hair Don’ts is a Level One I Can Read book, a perfect book about feelings for children learning to sound out words and sentences. The back matter features a list of the rich vocabulary words that are used throughout the story along with their definition, great for building vocabulary.

  • Level One Reader: Perfect for children ages 4 to 8, this book uses simple sentences and familiar words to help build confidence for those just learning to read.
  • A Perfect Picture Day Book: Join Nancy as she gets ready for the most important day of the school year, from picking a fancy outfit to a disastrous choice involving scissors!
  • Funny and Relatable Story: Laugh along with Nancy’s comical haircut mishap, a situation that will feel very familiar to any child who’s ever wanted to be a little more grown-up.
  • Teaches Gentle Lessons: Even when things go wrong, this story shows that a little creativity can solve any problem—and that it’s okay to make mistakes.

Author Bio

Jane O’Connor was born and raised in the fabulous metropolis of New York City. That’s where she still lives with her husband, Jim, although both their grown sons did something unfathomable (that means impossible to understand). They moved to the West Coast! Besides writing the Fancy Nancy series and other books for children, Jane spent her whole career as an editor at major publishing houses. Recently retired, she finds herself with something she never had before—free time to do whatever she pleases.

Robin Preiss Glasser has illustrated many acclaimed picture books, including the bestselling Fancy Nancy series, Lambslide, Escape Goat, and Grand Jeté and Me: A Christmas Holiday Book for Kids. She won the Children’s Choice Award for Best Illustrator of the Year for Fancy Nancy and the Mermaid Ballet. Robin actually wore tiaras and tutus when she danced with the Pennsylvania Ballet. Now she happily spends her days in jeans, drawing. Robin and her family live in Southern California.
