Wendy L. Williams4 Stars Out Of 5May 30, 2003Wendy L. WilliamsI think there are few quality Bible studies for teenagers, but we enjoyed using this book for our girls' small group (ages 11-14). Likes: each chapter is independent; good combination of Bible study and topical lesson; relatively concise; really liked the first-person stories (introduce each lesson). Dislike: disagreed with a few comments and chose to skip 1 chapter completely (but overall sound).
Joel Buchanan5 Stars Out Of 5October 26, 2001Joel BuchananMargaret Brouillette introduces us to twelve biblical characters, giving them a chance to tell their own stories, in a witty and humourous way. The familiar stories of Delilah, Samson, Pharaoh, Pilate and Jonah, among others, are given new life as she presents them from a different perspective. Each chapter also includes a series of questions that challenge the reader to take an in-depth look at issues such as humility, self-control, hypocrisy, selfishness and greed.Teens in particular will enjoy this book. They will appreciate Brouillette's candid style, as she is not afraid to ask difficult questions. Parents too will find themselves caught up in the drama and confronted by the questions. This book is useful for personal study and group discussion. It will help anyone who wants to study God's word and apply it to life.

Tell us a little about yourself. I have always loved being with people, reading about people, teaching and learning from people. I have 1 husband, 3 children, 1 dog. When I was 6 years old I told Jesus that I wanted to live the rest of my life for him. We've had our ups and downs, but that's not his fault. He's solid. I'm a jerk sometimes.
What was your motivation behind this project? I became fascinated by the people in the Bible who ruined their lives, because I could see how easy it would be. We have heard repeatedly about the heroes, but I began to notice that beside Moses was Pharaoh, beside Esther was Haman, beside Jesus was Judas. I wanted to get to know the losers to see what I could learn.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? In a word, wisdom. I want teens to consider carefully the choices they make. The lives of the Biblical jerks illustrate the pitfalls of foolishness, so we can avoid them and choose the route of faith and obedience. It's a tough call, but it's worth it.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Like Timothy, my grandparents and parents have had the greatest impact on my life. My favorite authors/artists are my kids, whose work I displayed on my fridge for years. C.S. Lewis is a close runner-up.
