Glenn T. Stanton and Leon C. Wirth, authors associated with Focus on the Family, wrote this book as a guide that reinforces how God fashioned the family unit to be focused on his love. Throughout the book, they emphasize our fallen, broken, and sinful nature all the while encouraging us that the grace of God to heal and transform us into his image bearers is infinitely more powerful.

The book is divided into four sections which seek to lay a biblical framework for marriage and family. Each chapter concludes with a reflection statement and reflection questions. The reflection statement serves to sum up the chapter in a profound statement that can be utilized as a prayer point. The reflection questions serve as a conversation piece between spouse and family to assist in confirming what you believe regarding the tough societal issues at hand. The authors also utilize many scientific facts, including graphs, charts, and statistics, to reveal the reason for failure of families. These facts subsequently support their claim for Christ being the bind that holds families together. Throughout the book they include links to photos throughout history that allow even further contemplation for each chapter.

They begin with three essential questions: who are we? Where do we come from? Where are we going? These are followed by four central statements: God created us (male and female) in His image; it is not good for man to be alone; through sin, we became like God in knowing good and evil; those who believe in Christ will be redeemed.

Although they address multiple societal issues that are tough and often glossed over, their approach is completed with intense grace. Its evident that their main point was not to be politically correct, but rather to reveal the current breakdown of families from where God has created them to be.

Overall, the book pushes for clarity and solid definition of family in light of Gods plan.
