Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  I work with families in the Pittsburgh area. I married my wife in 1992 and together we have two beautiful daughters. I enjoy swimming and music as well as hiking and biking (when I get the time).

What was your motivation behind this project?  While working with families at risk, I began to struggle to understand God's desire for families. After much consideration, I realized God desires that our families be filled with honor, grace, and celebration. I hope that this project will inspire people to use the practical ideas in the book to make their family a community of celebration, honor, and grace...a family after God's design.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I hope and pray that families will come to see the importance God has placed on families and how families reflect the image of God. I also hope that families will grow in their ability to honor one another, show one another grace, and celebrate their love for one another, even in the midst of discipline. By filling the family with honor, grace, and celebration I believe each family member can grow closer to one another and to God.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  I learned a great deal about the importance of honor and the dangers of dishonor while writing this book. I was personally inspired by learning the extent to which God desires to celebrate with His people and how far He will go to make that celebration possible. I was also fascinated by how closely honor, grace, and discipline connect with true celebration in the family.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  I enjoy CS Lewis. I loved Tim Kimmel's book "Grace Based Parenting," a must read for all parents. In addition, I believe many of the ideas in Family By God's Design are influenced by the work of John Gottman.
