Publisher's Description

The ruler of darkness? the Tempter? the Great Red Dragon? Apollyon; the Destroyer? One being is revealed to have all these titles and more - names that reveal his horrific nature? All names given to Satan, your adversary who comes like a lion "seeking whom he may devour" (1 Peter 5:8).

Today, many question and even mock the very existence of Satan, as well as the reality of evil. Even in the Church, by and large, there are few biblical resources on the subject to counter the destructive claims raised in today's humanistic culture. In The Fall of Satan: Rebels in the Garden you will discover the answers to 35 captivating questions, such as:

  • How could one created good become so absorbed by evil?
  • Why would God, who is not evil, allow evil to continue to exist?
  • Did sin begin with Adam or was its origin found in Satan?
  • When did Satan rebel against God's authority?

Where can the answers be found to such provocative, spiritual questions that have been asked so many times over? Carefully consider the biblical response, since it is the only completely reliable foundation for information about Satan. As our absolute authority, we must reject unqualified conclusions drawn from sources outside the Bible, such as the current ideas and traditions of the culture. No believer should be unaware of these sound answers found in the Bible.

Author Bio

Bodie attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (SIUC) and received a BS and MS (in 1996 and 1998 respectively) in mechanical engineering. His specialty was a subset of mechanical engineering based in advanced materials processing, particularly starting powders.

He conducted research for his master’s degree through a grant from Lockheed Martin and developed a New Method of Production of Submicron Titanium Diboride. The new process was able to make titanium diboride cheaper, faster and with higher quality. This technology is essential for some nanotechnologies.

During his years at SIUC (a secular college), he continued his personal study of biblical apologetics, and even began teaching this topic to a junior high church class. While at SIUC, he was the president of one of the few Christian RSOs (Registered Student Organizations) called Christians Unlimited, and was also an officer in the student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

After earning his master’s degree, he accepted a position of Visiting Instructor at SIUC and started in the fall semester of 1998. He was only 24 years old when he began teaching undergraduate engineering courses at the university.

After working for SIUC for a couple of years, Bodie accepted a position as a test engineer through Aerotek Engineering to work for Caterpillar Inc. in Peoria, Illinois at the Peoria Proving Ground.

While working at Caterpillar, he taught apologetics to junior high and high school students at his local church, which was a natural outcome considering his love for science, history, and theology. He did this until taking a position with Answers in Genesis in 2003. Currently, Bodie is a speaker, writer, and researcher on a host of topics, including fall of Satan and related events.

Bodie was saved when he was nine. As a youngster, he was active in baseball, football and basketball. His hobbies also included hunting and fishing, which are almost unavoidable pursuits while growing up on a farm in Western Illinois.

In The Fall Of Satan, Bodie Hodge focuses on responding to common questions that Christians and others have about Satan, creation, and the fall of man. While he provides a lot of interesting opinions and speculations, there is also a lot that he is unable to answer -- simply because there is no way of knowing.

Hodge approaches age-old questions from a Young Earth Creationist worldview. Complete with 35 questions, this book is full of good theological debates that will cause readers to think. For example: how could Satan, who was created good, become evil? The author uses Scripture to back up each of his claims, which helps the validity of his message. Even though Hodge received his master’s degree in mechanical engineering, he now works for Answers in Genesis as a researcher, writer, and speaker.

In the foreword, Hodge writes that the book "should be an excellent resource that looks closely at the bad news in Genesis but also shares the powerful good news of Jesus Christ and his sacrifice that has conquered sin, Satan, and evil once for all" (p. 10). Throughout the book, he does a very good job of sticking to this thesis and makes sure that he applies his commentary to the readers' everyday lives.

One Scripture verse that applies to the questions in the book is from 2 Corinthians 2:11, which says, "…in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes." These thought-provoking questions are a great way for Christians to further their knowledge of Satan, ancient history, and the basics of Christian theology. I would recommend this book to any believers who are eager to learn more about the origins of their faith and how to defend it. – Jonathan Hausler, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
