Publisher's Description

Lost in Exile, Found in Scripture: A Fresh Look at Psalm 119

In this illuminating commentary on Psalm 119, David VanDrunen offers a fresh perspective on the Bible’s longest chapter, exploring its profound relevance for Christians today. Through careful exposition of the psalm’s twenty–two stanzas, VanDrunen reveals how this ancient text speaks to contemporary believers who, like the psalmist, live as ‘sojourners’ in a world that is not their true home.

Key Features:

  • Warm and accessible meditation on Scripture’s longest psalm
  • Explores themes of affliction, persecution, repentance, and hope
  • Shows how the psalmist’s journey points forward to Christ
  • Treats Psalm 119 as a cohesive masterpiece rather than isolated verses

Written in an engaging and pastoral style, this book will help readers appreciate Psalm 119 not merely as a collection of individual verses but as a cohesive masterpiece that traces the spiritual journey of God’s people.

Perfect for:

  • Students of Scripture
  • Small group studies
  • Personal devotional reading
  • Anyone seeking to understand how God’s word sustains his people through times of trial

Discover how this beloved psalm illuminates the relationship between God’s word and his people’s experience as sojourners in this world.

Editorial Reviews

David VanDrunen is one of the clearest and most precise Reformed thinkers about the Christian life. What a treat that he has put his pastoral application of that incisiveness into print so that we might all benefit from his preaching through Psalm 119.

~ Harrison Perkins

This volume serves as a living testimony to the power of God’s Word, demonstrating how it sustains and strengthens Christians who, like exiles, live in a world captive to sin and swept away by waves of iniquity.

~ Changwon Shu

Psalm 119 is packed with timeless truths that for millennia have enlightened the paths of many pilgrims. VanDrunen explains these truths afresh with exegetical precision and practical application.

~ Brian A. DeVries

Among all the chapters of Scripture, none emphasizes the Word of God more frequently or intensely than Psalm 119, and it is fitting that a servant of the Word such as VanDrunen should write on this psalm.

~ Joonbum Kim

Psalm 119 is a majestic Psalm that calls the reader to meditate on God’s Word and delight in it, which makes Dave VanDrunen’s book a fitting response. He serves as a careful, honest, and clear guide to exploring the richness of the Psalm and what obedience to it means for the Christian.
