In Faith & Joy, Fernando Cardenal S.J. shares his story of involvement in the Sandinista Revolution in Nicaragua. As one of several priests who served in the Sandinista goverment in 1980's, he was later promoted to Minister of Education. However, his continued involvement with the new government lead to his suspension from the priesthood and his expulsion from the Society of Jesus. Throughout his life he remained committed to the poor and remarkably, was later readmitted to the Society of Jesus. His moving memoir relates the journey of a priest who consistently followed his faith and conscience to serve the poor and to live out the radical social implications of the Gospel.
