Product Description

Powerful excepts from the writings of one of the giants of the faith. It has been almost 500 years since Martin Luther wrote his famous ninety-five theses and nailed them to the door of the Castle Church in Germany. His challenge to the doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church ignited the Protestant Reformation and shaped the evangelical tradition of the modern church. As he anguished in his quest for truth, Luther came to understand that salvation is a radically free gift that must be accepted by "faith alone." Freshly translated from the original German into today's language, this book contains a treasury of daily devotionals taken from some of Luther's best writings and sermons that reveal both the fervency of his beliefs and his profound theological insights.

Publisher's Description

Timeless insights from one of the most important people in church history. Some people value good works so much that they overlook faith in Christ. Faith should be first.… It is faith—without good works and prior to good works—that takes us to heaven. We come to God through faith alone. —Martin Luther Resounding across the centuries, Martin Luther’s prolific writings as a pastor, theologian, scholar, Bible translator, father, and more, remain powerful and richly relevant. Faith Alone is a treasury of accessible devotionals taken from Luther’s best writings and sermons from the years 1513 through 1546. This carefully updated translation retains the meaning, tone, and imagery of Luther’s works. Through daily readings, Luther’s straightforward approach challenges you to a more thoughtful faith. Read one brief section a day or explore themes using the subject index in the back of the book. Faith Alone will deepen your understanding of Scripture and help you more fully appreciate the mystery of faith.

I have what seems like a small library of devotionals. I saw this book at a second hand and this has been a great daily devotional. I was unsure if the language would be in old English or hard to understand, on the contrary this is very easy and updated for today's style. Not too modern, but simpler. I have really enjoyed this, because it really gives you food for thought, and makes you want to explore scripture more. I will be buying a second one to give as a gift.

This Devotional is well written and easy to understand. I think it would be good for anyone who is interested in reading about the word of God early in the morning or before retiring. This is not meant to replace Bible reading but will definitely enhance one's understanding of God's Word.
