Tell us a little about yourself. My friends and students call me RevKev I was born and raised in Nashville, TN. I have been in ministry for 29 years (beginning when I was 15 years old) and in pastoral ministry for more than 20 of those years. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Pastoral Administration from Free Will Baptist Bible College, my Master of Arts degree in Religious Studies from Trevecca Nazarene University, and my Doctor of Philosophy degree in the Integration of Society and Religion from Oxford Graduate School.
Presently I pastor Franklin Community Church and teach Sociology at Nashville State Community College. I also teaches college and graduate courses online in Leadership, Theology, and Ethics, and have served as an adjunct faculty member at Williamson Christian College , Oxford Graduate School, and Rockbridge Seminary.
I am active in my community through Rotary and Empty Hands Fellowship. In my spare time I like to read, walk, and ride bikes. I am also certified through PADI as a Dive Master.
I live in Franklin, TN with my wife and high school sweetheart, Misty, our two teenage children, Katherine and Zachary, and our Golden Retriever, Sandy.
I am available to speak at conferences and retreats. I can best be reached through email at email@example.com.
What was your motivation behind this project? I am convinced that if we are not careful we can romantacize Jesus' life, putting Him out of reach from most people. He was, and is, the Son of God, but He was also very good at being human. My book tries to take a more human look at Jesus, looking at events in His life that are similar to what we go through, and that could have been considered failures.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? That Jesus failed His way all the way to the cross, and that as His followers, we will go through times of perceived failure as well. But it is all part of God's plan to make us a success in His eyes.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? A lot of the stories in the book are personal to me, I either experienced them, or experienced them through friends. By writing the book I was reminded that God loves me unconditionally for who I am, not for what I have, or have not accomplished.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? My dad and granddad (both ministers) have been big influencers in my life. Dr. William Lane, was a personal friend of mine, and his commentary on Mark's Gospel is where my journey into a deeper look at Jesus began.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I'm just an ordinary guy who is trying to figure out what it means to follow Christ, and lead His Church, in today's culture.
