Only Dekker can tell a self-discovery story with a twist. From the very beginning, I was fully engaged with Christy Snow's story. Snow is trapped. In a coffin. But is it real? What is reality? Who is she? Who am I? Who are you? Really. The question of who we are is on our minds more often that not. We think we know the answer, but for some the truth is elusive. We can't be who we are meant to be until we come to terms with who we are and who we belong to.
In "Eyes Wide Open", Dekker takes you on a journey of self-discovery that will leave you with your mouth open in awe. You will enjoy the twists and turns that makes Dekker a best-selling author. One minute your mind is safe. The next minute you are tripping all over your thoughts. No character is safe--not even the reader. Beginning as a series of four short stories in e-book form, "Eyes Wide Open" can now be purchased as one book in e-book or paperback format.

Jen PenMidwest5 Stars Out Of 5Intense, riveting and possible...January 20, 2014Jen PenMidwestQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5SUMMARY:
Christy Snow, through unlikely but completely possible circumstances, has found herself locked as a patient in a mental health institution. The doctors have given her a new identity, one that she finds herself questioning - what is her real identity? As she seeks a way to escape the hospital, she travels on a journey through which she and the reader must find their real identities.
A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
Ted Dekker provides the reader with a novel that is both intense and believable. The book gains it power through the use/ style of suspension of disbelief. Dekker allows the reader to take the journey with their "eyes wide open", believing that the events unfolding are both true and possible. The story is intense and action filled - yet, the deeper meanings in the book, as it is a parable, will provide the reader with the opportunity to stop and reflect on their own three levels of identity - 1.) as it is true, 2.) as it is self-imposed and 3.) as it is imposed by others. However, while as the book required the reader to suspend disbelief, the last sections of the book jar the reader out of the possibility of reality (yet is still riveting). I remain excited to read the next book in the series, Water Walker.

bookwomanjoanOak Harbor, WAAge: Over 65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Believing spiritual reality or the physical worldJanuary 10, 2014bookwomanjoanOak Harbor, WAAge: Over 65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Reading Dekker is always an exercise in imagined reality and this book is a superb workout. Like the characters in this novel, we must continually ask ourselves what is more true, what God says about us or what we are seeing and experiencing in the physical world.
Christy and Austin find themselves in a psych ward. Their identity is questioned. The administrator is convincing in declaring them patients. Their treatment is begun. Their world becomes something neither of them could have imagined.
In addition to being a well written and suspenseful novel, there is the prevalent them of what is real and what is presented as real by evil forces. I don't think I have ever read a novel that so graphically portrays the struggle between believing (and living in) spiritual truth and physical circumstances.
This novel was originally released in four sections. The full book is being released this month.
Also, at the end of the book I realized that one character and the background stories of Christy and Austin come from previous books by Dekker. You will not have had to read those to enjoy this novel, however.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher for the purpose of this review.
Fitzysmom5 Stars Out Of 5January 9, 2014FitzysmomI enjoy reading Ted Dekker's work so much. It is both complex and thought provoking and at the same time simple and entertaining. In his newest work Eyes Wide Open he has returned to his classic style that we all enjoyed in THR3E and House.
Eyes Wide Open is the complete book that was also released as a four ebook episodic serial series. The story begins with book one which is entitled Identity. In this episode Mr. Dekker takes one of our worst fears, being trapped with no way out, and brings it to life with Christy Snow.
Just like Alice in Alice in Wonderland, Christy falls into a hole and winds up in a world that doesn't make sense to her. Before long her friend Austin arrives to save her only to find himself trapped in the same situation. During their confinement they are forced to look within themselves and confront some of their deepest held beliefs.
By the time the story gets to book four Christy and Austin begin to lose hope that their situation will ever change. But just when all seems lost the story turns and takes on a whole new dimension. A new character named Outlaw comes upon the scene and presents Christy and Austin a way out. The question then becomes will they have the ability to take that path? Will they be able to "see" what is in front of them and decide what is real and what is perceived?
Eyes Wide Open is told in an allegorical style that you can enjoy on multiple levels. You can choose to just be terrified and entertained with the story that is presented on the page. Or you can also choose to look deeper and see the spiritual aspects that are presented. I preferred the later. I enjoyed delving into the way we look at and perceive our surroundings. When I closed the book I found myself praying that the Lord would continually remind me to keep my EYES WIDE OPEN and use the lamps that He gave me to truly see what is there.
I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.
