"I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come?" Psalm 121:1
As moms, we spend a lot of time looking down: at our phones, at the toddler at our feet, at our mounting to-do lists. We also gaze to the side, envious of what others have. We might even look behind us, nostalgic about the past, or ahead in hope for a more manageable future. But what if God, through his Word, is gently placing his hand under our chins and lifting our eyes toward him?
Derived from Psalm 121, these 40 devotions will help you lift your eyes from motherhoods trials and fix them upon Gods character and strength. Alongside stunning original watercolor illustrations, Whitney Newby provides Bible verses, personal stories, and Scripture-based reflections that will encourage you amid motherhoods unique challenges.
These concise devotions offer powerful reminders of Gods promises whenever and wherever you need them. When you fix your eyes on him and know him as your Helper, Comforter, Shepherd, and Sustainer, you can move forward with purpose and hope in your mothering journey.

"With much warmth and wisdom, Lift Your Eyes encourages mothers to remember the source of their help as they are in the thick of motherhood. Using Psalm 121 as the framework for how moms can lift their eyes from the daily realities of motherhood to the character and steadfast love of the Lord, Whitney shows her readers how every promise of God finds its Yes and Amen in Jesus, and that in Him we have all that we need for the journey in all ages and stages of motherhood."
Courtney Tracy, author of Putting Jesus First: A 21-day Devotional Journey Through Colossians
"The eyes of a mom are always darting around: ahead at all she has to tackle, all over to assess the needs of her kids, to the left to see how shes measuring up, down at the messes she has to clean, and in the mirror lamenting the toll of motherhood. Lift Your Eyes invites moms to fix their gaze on something more life givingand I dont just mean the watercolor illustrations. With clear and accessible writing as beautiful as her art, Whitney vulnerably, authentically, and sincerely shares the good news of the gospel for the good, bad, ugly, and ordinary days of motherhood in a way that will redeem the way you see it all."
Abbey Wedgeworth, mom of three, author of Held and the Training Young Hearts series

In Lift Your Eyes, my friend Whitney lovingly, joyfully, and faithfully inspires hard-working moms to lift their eyes to the One who helps, the Lord who made heaven and earth. Though this book is designed to encourage moms, its message is the refrain of every Christians lifewe are loved, saved, and held, and as we live this sometimes-turbulent life, we will lift our eyes to the One who has paid for and continuously provides for all our needs."
Ryan Welsh, lead pastor at Restoration Church

Tell us a little about yourself. Hi, I'm Whitney.Newby - mom of four, author, artist, and founder of Brighter Day Press. I'm passionate about helping families fill their homes with beauty, truth, and gospel-centered resources.
Most days, you'll find me homeschooling in the living room, sipping a matcha latte, and leaning hard on the grace of God. I started writing because I needed reminders of His presence in the middle of motherhood's messiest moments - and I pray my words do the same for you!
What was your motivation behind this project? In the early years of motherhood, I found myself overwhelmed - exhausted by the needs around me and desperate to remember what was true. I wasn't looking for more advice or parenting tips - I needed God's Word. I needed to know He saw me, was with me, and had purpose in the ordinary and the unseen. My motivation was simple: to offer other weary moms what had anchored me:gospel-centered truth rooted in Scripture. Lift Your Eyes was born from weakness, not strength. And it's a reminder I still need: to lift my eyes to Him, again and again.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? My hope is that Lift Your Eyes offers moms a moment to breathe; a quiet place to be reminded of what's true. I pray it meets women right in the middle of the mess: when the dishes are piled high, the kids are crying, and their own hearts feel weary or overlooked. I hope they walk away not with more to do, but with more peace—more confidence in who God is and how deeply He loves them. I want them to see that His presence isn’t reserved for the quiet mornings or “perfect” moments, but that He’s right there in the everyday, offering strength, grace, and rest.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Writing Lift Your Eyes slowed me down and helped me pay attention to what God was doing right in front of me. As I wrote each devotional, I wasn't speaking from a place of arrival - I was clinging to truth I needed in real time. This project became a way the Lord ministered to my own heart. It reminded me that His Word really is living and active, and that His presence meets us even in the smallest, most ordinary moments of motherhood. More than anything, it reminded me that I’m not alone. And I pray it does the same for every mom who picks it up.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? So much of what I write and create is shaped by the faithful voices who've gone before me. I've been deeply influenced by authors like Elisabeth Elliot and Darlene Deibler Rose, whose unwavering trust in God in the midst of suffering has anchored me in hard seasons. I return often to the words of Sally Clarkson, who paints such a beautiful, biblical vision of motherhood and home.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: If I could sit across from you with a cup of coffee and tell you one thing, it's this: you are not alone. I know how overwhelming motherhood can feels - how unseen the work is, how heavy the days can feel, and how easy it is to believe that you're not doing enough. But His grace isn't just for when you finally get it together - it's for right now, right here. I pray this devotional feels like a friend walking beside you, gently pointing you back to Jesus and the unshakable hope we have in Him.
